How to Find Great Articles on Your Favorite Subject
Over the past nine years (VeloceToday is beginning our tenth year of continuous weekly publication) we have posted almost 1200 feature articles on cars, events, people, news, and lifestyles. Looking for these archived treasures—and finding them—is not always easy, but can be if you know what buttons to press.
There are over 483 articles in the VeloceToday archives published just since February of 2008 alone (in WordPress) and 690 between 2002 and 2007. This article will help you find what you’re looking for or just make it easier to browse through the archives. After they appear on the homepage for generally two weeks, each article is then placed in the archives. If you missed VT for a week or two, or if you are new to VT, you won’t be aware of articles which may be of interest to you, now hidden in the archives, not to mention the thousands of photos also resident within those articles.
Using the “Find” box
To find articles published since 2008 to present, use the find function in the top right hand column. The “Find” box is easy, just type in a subject, car, author or keyword and a list of articles will be displayed. The pages only display eight articles at a time. To see more, if there are more, scroll down and click on “previous results” and it will take you back further in time to see more articles with the mention of your find topic. You can use the Find box to quickly find articles about Alfa Romeo or any other French or Italian car, as well as people and topics.Using the “Archives” box
This is a bit of a misnomer, but as you can see, if you open the box there is a list of months and years. Click on one and it will open to all the articles written in that month. The “previous results” feature applies here as well. This is handy if you want to know what articles were published about Monterey, for example, which always takes place in mid August, or if you remember when you saw an article but not the details. The number of articles per week varies between 3 and 6, depending on time of year.
Using the “Category” box
Book reviews are still a bit messy, due to WordPress (and free) software. They should have their own category but don’t. Easiest way of finding old book reviews is to use the “Find” function and type in “book review”.
Between the three functions, one should be able to find a subject of interest. Of note, in early 2010 VeloceToday changed its column width, which had the effect of altering the spacing on all articles published prior to January 2010. We simply don’t have the staff or time to go back and correct the spacing, framing, and text problems incurred in the past. There is always another week of VeloceToday coming at us!
Using the Old VT Archives
To access this file, look at the top bar, right under the Maserati’s trident in the banner. The fourth button over is “Search Archives”. This archive functions allows you to go to the old VeloceToday files and find articles on Cars, Events, Racing, People, News and Lifestyles. Unfortunately, there is no other find function available for those archives. Articles were grouped under these general categories. You will find all the F1 reports under “Racing”. Vintage events and shows appear under “Events”. “Cars” archive has articles about individual cars such as the Fiat Spyder, Fiat Balilla, etc.
Easy find: On or about topics
Making this search a bit easier are the articles titled “On or about” the major marques. These were updated in 2008 so they list almost all of the articles Alfa Romeo, for example. However, the naming conventions often make is hard to figure out what an article is about for example, “The Big Z” is not about a long sleep but the big 2600 Alfa Zagato. And what is “Farina’s Jupiter Symphony”. We’ll let you find out.
We won’t leave you hanging in link limbo though. For those who want to know more about the subjects in the above photos, here are the links:
