
After winning Best of Show Award at Carmel on Tuesday, Jon Shirley and his 250 TR s/n 0666 had a moment in the corkscrew on Saturday.
With Porsche as the featured marque at this year’s 36th Monterey Historic Automobile Races, and more than 145 cars from Stuttgart on a field of 450 race cars, non-Porsche fans could fear to be bored. But, as always at the Monterey Historics, there was enough for everyone, French and Italian enthusiasts included. Here is my selection for VeloceToday.

Only once was a Porsche 917 beaten by a Ferrari 512 S. It was at Sebring in 1970 thanks to Giunti, Vaccarella and Andretti.

1963 Rene Bonnet Djet with a 1296 cc engine. Rene Bonnet sold out to Matra who continued to produce the Djet.

This French Cottin-Desgouttes of 1911 has a displacement of no less than 10,500 cc and finished 17th in the 1904-1940 Sporting cars class in which the smallest car had 850 cc (Austin 7 Special).

The Mullins team was out in force with a 1938 Talbot Lago 26 SS, 1946 Delage D6 and a pair of Bugattis.

1952 Siata 300 BC was 3rd in class and 20th OA at the 1953 Sebring has been raced by Marty Stein, of Jackson, CA for more than 20 years. HM by the number means Class H, Modified, an SCCA class system.
