Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena won the 2012 Acropolis Rally, capturing their fourth win of the season edging out teammate Mikko Hirvonen, while Jari-Matti Latvala of Ford finished in third place.

Qualifying Stage was won by the ever-quick Petter Solberg, followed by Jari-Matti Latvala and Sebastien Loeb.

On Day One, Jari-Matti Latvala took the lead, before giving it up to Loeb in the PS4. Loeb therefore began to think about strategy, conducted a careful race and concluded the first stage 6.5 seconds ahead of Latvala. Solberg was third. Loeb commanded the second day of the rally in the Citroen.

Finally on the final day, Solberg, who was having a great comeback, was the victim of an accident which forced him to leave second place to Mikko Hirvonen and his DS3 WRC. Loeb, of course, took first and neatly wrapped up another WRC event.

For Sebastien Loeb it was the 71st win of his career and, thanks to three bonus points for scoring the fastest time in the Power Stage, he extended his lead in the standings by thirty points over Hirvonen. Loeb now has 119 points to Hirvonen’s 89.

The Minis were out of contention. Armindo Araujo and team-mate Paulo Nobre both failed to complete the second day of the rough gravel event due to suspension issues.

Continuing to drive well with the S2000 Skoda, Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia finished 7th overall.

After the Rally, Loeb said, “It’s been a long and difficult rally. We had good battles with Latvala and Solberg, and in some moments I had to push hard.”

Hirvonen-

Hirvonen, newcomer to Citroen this year, is consistently right behind Loeb. He finished second overall in Greece.

Latvala

Latvala gives the Citroen team plenty of competition and managed third overall after a very long and tough rally.

Ogier-Volkswagen

Ogier in the Skoda/Fabia Volkswagen finished 7th, and is getting the VW team ready for the WRC class in 2013.
