This year Automédon was held October 8-9 at the Parc des expositions du Bourget in Paris, France. While not yet RetroMobile, the weather is far better and many of the neatest cars are found in the car park outside. Per the PR sheet, “The vintage car-park is Automédon’s icing on the cake. Busy, lively and always renewed, it presents each and every brand, all the models from the most popular ones to the rarest ones. The vehicles are over 30 years old. The cars keep arriving and going during the two days of the Show, thus creating a continuous, vivid ballet.” It is certainly the editor’s favorite part of the event.
According to the press release, “Automédon offers a display of varied and new exhibits. For Automédon, being in the Top 5 of the specialized shows is not a matter left to chance: its know-how is to be seen in its ability to attract and gather vintage cars addicts in a most congenial atmosphere, combine the past and the future of vintage cars, gather rare vehicles that are part of the rich heritage of the rolling stock, and mix all types in utmost relaxation.”
Yves Levasseur, the organizer of Automédon Show, bought his first car at the age of 18, a 1939 DKW cabriolet. He is a man with a strong spirit and one of the mainstays in the vintage car sector. He created Automédon in 2001. “Automédon is a sort of vast living museum since most of the cars and motorcycles on display are still working!” he says.
Again this year Alessandro Gerelli traveled to Paris to attend the show. In this part of his two part story, he presents a gallery of French cars found both in the show and in the parking lot. He covers some of the Monte Carlo rally cars in Part 2.
