Cars of the Ring: Oldtimer Grand Prix, 2014

August 19, 2014 By Gerelli

This is how I did captions before today..

Maserati 250F #2533 of 1958.

Story and photos by Alessandro Gerelli

The traditional mid-August appointment at the Nurburgring was a great success, with a huge number of enthusiasts to see many important old cars. The old and very long Nordschleife track is used only for one race (the Marathon): all the other races are run on the normal track.

In addition to the races, there were the usual owner’s meetings. The Porsche meet is always the most crowded with an incredible number of cars, but the Ferrari, Maserati and Alfa Romeo meetings also saw a great number of cars. This year McLaren also was present.

The two racing classes for single-seaters and two-seats sport cars of the 1960s and before had the most entrants: in the first, there were 11 Maseratis (of which 6 were 250Fs!), 4 Bugattis and 1 Dino Ferrari, while in the second, there were 4 Maseratis plus few Ferraris and one Osca among English and German jewels.

Of course, going back to 10 years ago, many cars have disappeared to sleep in the collections, but the situation is still very good.

During the weekend, an auction by Coys was held: the level of the cars was not too high, but it was interesting to see a few Italian Abarths and one Giannini, plus a nice Formula 3 car by Dallara.

Wonderful pictures;the Monza on the back of the Alfa lorry is a Pur Sang replica (engineless on sunday).
The n°10 Maserati is definitely a prewar car,so not an A6GCM.
    Keep up your fine effort.

I agree with Michel, very nice pics.
Pur Sang replica or not, the combination with the Alfa Truck is sooooo sweet!
Not many Alfa trucks have survived, so this is really nice to see.
    Envy the owner!
