While Ducati had previously dominated the World Superbike category, in 2007 the famous Italian concern won the coveted MotoGP Constructors Championship, bringing the title back to Italy after thirty four years.
If this wasn’t enough (the MotoGP is much like Formula 1–there is a constructor’s championship and a driver’s championship) Casey Stoner, a young man from Australia known to be shy, quiet and unassuming, rode his Ducati Desmocedici GP7 bike to ten victories over the course of the season, shutting out the popular Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) and winning the World Championship for himself.
In honor of Ducati’s winning year, Ducati Corse published a fascinating and visually stunning yearbook, distributed in the U.S. and Canada by Parker House. The book’s large format–12†by 12â€, allows room for the outstanding photography to be well presented, at the same time not so big as to clutter an entire room. We can’t say enough about the images–we’ll just present a few samples herein and tell you it’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Each race of the MotoGP season is illustrated, and complimented by interesting comments from the team. All results are listed in another section. Specs for both the MotoGP bike and the larger Superbike are provided.
This we found the specs interesting, hence a quick rundown on the MotoGP Desmocedici GP7:
Engine Type:: 90 degree V4, liquid cooled, four valves per cylinder. Marelli electronic injection.
Displacement: 799cc, over 200 horsepower
Top speed: 192 mph
Transmission:: 6 speed cassette type gearbox, dry multiplate clutch, chain drive.
Chassis: Tubular steel trellis chassis with aluminum swing arm
Brakes: Two carbon Brembo discs in front and one steel discs at the rear.
In addition, the results of the Superbike series are listed; Ducati place third in the Constructor’s Championship in 2007.
Ducati 2007 MotoGP and World Superbike offers everyting one might ask for in a yearbook—great quality, stunning photos, complete results, technical information, and a future collector’s item
