Elite from Essen

April 13, 2010 By pete

In 1965 the Italian magazine Quattroruote had the idea for the Gran Sport 1750 replicar that was inspired by the 6C 1750 and based on the Giulia Spider platform.

Techno-Classica Essen 2010

During the five days (April 7-11) of Techno-Classica in Essen (Germany), there are more classic, vintage and racing cars offered for sale under one roof than anywhere else in the world.

About 2,500 such automobiles were waiting for a new owner. It is worth knowing that around 20 percent of all vintage cars and classic cars globally are sold in Germany. This kind of percentage attracts collectors and enthusiasts from all over the world to Essen and despite the economic and automotive industry crisis, the big German automobile manufacturers as well as some European carmakers were on stage to show their pieces of history.

For the 60th anniversary of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on May 13 1950, Alfa Romeo showed two Tipo 159s, one of them without bodywork.

Alfa Romeo celebrates it 100th anniversary this year and brought some cars from the Museo Storico in Arese like a P2, a P3, a 6C 3000 CM, a Tipo 33 Stradale and a 33 TT 12.

Just like Sue and Keith's. Tipo 33 Stradale from the Alfa Museum.

This interesting Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS was on sale. This unique example was first sold in Argentina in 1949. More recently it took part to the 1991 Mille Miglia Storica. Does anyone know more about the history of this car?

This Ferrari 212 Export was born as a Touring barchetta and later rebodied for the movie The Racers. It has been recently completely restored and took part to last year’s Mille Miglia.

Still on the racing front was this Osca MT 4 2AD s/n 1142 in its 1954 Carrera Panamericana livery where it was driven by Roberto Mieres. It was also driven by De Portago at the Tour de France the same year.

This Giannini Fiat 1100 of 1948 needs a bit of work. It was found in Czechoslovakia and is now equipped with a 750 BMW motorcycle engine.

This Abarth Allemano Spyder was really built by Cisitalia in only 12 examples

Another Zagato classic of 1961is this Lancia Flaminia Sport.

An Etceterini ? This is a Fiat Simca Deho 8 Sport of 1938. Built in France by Simca under license by Fiat, it is equipped with a Fiat 1100 engine tuned by Gordini. Only two are known to exist.

A nice example of the French ‘carrosserie’ is this 1938 Delahaye 135 MS coupe by Chapron. The coupe bodies are very rare on the 135 MS chassis and only 7 are believed to have been built.

A more recent but very special car was this 1984 Peugeot 505 Turbo coupe. Peugeot built a coupe version and a convertible version of the 505 saloon as they thought it could suit for the US market but sadly these cars remained as one-off prototypes.

The Matra MS120/C shown here took part in the 1971 (B version) and 1972 (C version) Formula 1 seasons with Chris Amon at the wheel. It was still racing recently at the Monaco Historic GP. A perfect car for the Monterey Motorsport Reunion at Laguna Seca next August, where a special grid will celebrate 60 years of Formula 1.
