Gerelli’s Retro: The Cost of Our Passion

February 10, 2010 By Gerelli

1925 Submerged Bugatti Brescia sold for 260, 500 Euros, ($363, 058) for charity.

Story and Photos by Alessandro Gerelli

The traditional auction that is held yearly at the Retromobile by Bonhams included about 50 lots of memorabilia and about 100 cars; most of the cars presented were French, with few Italian, English, German and American.

The quality of the cars was high, but without really “high end” cars: only five had an estimation of over half a million of euros (a Ferrari Superamerica, an Alfa 8C, an Alfa Castagna, a Fiat 8V and a Maserati A6G 1500) and none of them sold.

The result of the auction has been in line with the economic world moment. About 60% of the cars that have been sold were good bargains for the buyers. Top prices were 475.000 euros for an Hispano Suiza of 1935, about 400.000 euros for a Mercedes Benz 630K of 1929 and a Swiss Monteverdi Hai 450SS of 1970.

Please note that all the prices mentioned below are inclusive of the buyer’s premium.
