There are events, and there are EVENTS. VeloceToday covers the gamut, from the huge such as Concorso Italiano, Retro, Mille Miglia and Goodwood, to obscure, smaller affairs like those held each year at Bassano del Grappa, Italy which caters to barchettas particularly of the etceterini kind. It has got to be one of the most delightful affairs of all; a warm, friendly gathering of truly knowledgeable car enthusiasts.

The Dolomites, located in the Veneto region of Italy, which extends from Venice on the Adriatic to the Austrian border provide the locale for the even. But most of the action takes place between the charming medieval town of Bassano and the famed ski resort area of Cortina. The scenery and roads don’t come any better. As Chuck Schoendorf wrote his experiences, “This was my third year and it still excites! Sunscreen applied, we left Bassano in full sunshine to drive across the hillside vineyards of Valdobbiadene, the home of Prosecco, that sparkling aperitif wine now popular everywhere. Between two brief time trials, gift bottles and a tray of chilled Prosecco in flutes appeared for drivers and navigators, sure, why not?”

Bassano this year

This year, the Circolo Veneto Automoto d’Epoca is presenting an event billed as “La Leggenda di Bassano – Trofeo Giannino Marzotto” which will take place at Bassano del Grappa from the 16th till the 19th of June 2016. As always, the Bassano event is unique in the international world of motor cars collectors and “reunites enchanted locations, unique cars and extraordinary drivers.” It is on the FIVA International Calendar and in the National Calendar of Car Events of the Automotoclub Storico Italiano. The event is organized by the Circolo Veneto Automoto d’Epoca Giannino Marzotto, via Torino 2, Romano d’Ezzelino (VI), www.cvae1961. It enjoys the logistical cooperation of the Historic Racing Bassano, via San Bortolo 14, 36020 Pove del Grappa (VI), leggendadibassano@gmail.com

Is your car eligible?

Every year we have to ask Dino Brunori (author of Nardi, A Fast Life), to help us identify the wonderful variety of typically small displacement cars which show up at Bassano. So, what is eligible this year? According the organizers, “Competition Sportscars of the Vintage, Post Vintage and Classic categories (built therefore between 1920 and 1960). The Organizing Committee reserves the right to allow in the event a few GT, GTS and Prototype cars built in the same period, as well as possible Post Classic and Modern cars, that however will not compete for the overall prizes.” All the cars must have the FIVA Identity Card and/or the Certificato di Identità A.S.I. Cars not regularly road registered or with just a temporary registration will not be allowed into the race.

Dear, I do not understand. You are writing about the “la leggenda di Bassano, trofeo giannino marzotto” but you are showing the pictures of “Le Mitiche Sport a Bassano”. Those are two different events, in particular “La leggenda di Bassano…” takes place for the first time and, off course, there are no pictures about it.

    Giovanni,

You are correct. The article is a “preview” of the event to come, therefore we (and the official brochure for the event) used photos from past events at or near Bassano.
