Retromobile 2014 was a huge success with more than 90,000 visitors in five days. A major factor contributing to this success was the very high level of the cars that could be seen, both in the exhibition itself and in the auctions that are held during the opening.

Italian cars have attracted the attention of everybody, but this year the presence of Maserati was of particular interest.

Graham Gauld has already told us the story of the Baird Griffin, but another single-seater Maserati deserves attention: it is the Maserati 250F, chassis number 2531 with a V12 engine. Constructed in 1957 with a V60° 12 cylinder 2.5 liter engine producing around 300 bhp, this car raced only once, in Italy driven by Jean Behra. Then it was equipped with a Chevrolet engine racing till 1965, before being restored with the V12.

At the Artcurial auction, a Maserati 150S of 1956 with an estimated price of 1.4 to 1.8 millions euros did not sell, while a Ghibli Spider of 1972 sold at 750k euros.

Other Maseratis of the 60s and 70s were sold by Bonhams at prices in line with the estimates.

There were also a couple of Maserati motorbikes in the show and the one at Artcurial auction sold for 15000 euros. So, a busy time for Maserati at Retro!

Behra's V12 is still in great shape.

The V12 was planned to take the place of the long lived straight six.

Brave men sat here. But let's not forget Teresa..

V12 serial numbers. Anyone have a photo of the car with the Chev engine?

Maserati Tipo 60-61 Camoradi.

May not be real streamlining but definitely dramatic. Dr. Kamm got lost in France.

Ultimate Birdcage? Supercage does it better.

Maserati Barchetta of 1992. Competition history anyone?

Bye bye Birdy.
