Mystery Car Contest
THE QUESTION
- Correctly identify this car,
- State the name of the coachbuilder,
- Supply the most additional information about the car, companies involved with production.
See below for answer.
THE ANSWER
On May 9th, we featured a mystery car photograph. While we received many responses, the only reader to correctly identify the car
in the photo as a Fiat OSCA 1600 Fissore was Lorenzo Marchesini. The actual date of the construction is
still a bit if a mystery, however. Why is it also a Cisitalia? Apparently Piero Dusio imported
a variety of cars from Italy to Argentina, and badged them as Cisitalias. The car currently is owned by James Goren of New York.
. . . . . .
Dear Editor,
Front and back of the car show Cisitalia name plates, but the car is a (Mario) Fissore
styled Fiat 1600 coupe. Some may think it is an OSCA, and I should have a look under
the hood/wheels to verify that. The front is rather from a Fiat 1600 coupe excercise by Fissore.
There are however slight modifications according to my humble opinion to the directional lights in the front (here they
are round while some Fissores had rectangular ones mounted on the bumper) and the air scoop was of the
closed type (bubble) and not open as on your photo. The top is clearly an evolution of
the Fissore OSCA Gran Turismo coupe as the original Fiat had a double back-window Stingray type. The
front of the Fissore OSCA that I have in mind was totally different from the Fiat coupe and had double
headlights. The backlights seem to have come from an Alfa SS Giulia/Giulietta coupe by Bertone.
Final verdict: Fiat/Fiat Osca Coupe by Fissore, build probably not long after the year 1960 at
the time when the Fiat 1800-2300 6 cilinder cars were made by the Turin car manufacturer.
A pure guess of mine as for the DOB is 1963 as the Fiat 1600 Fissore coupe was first presented at the Salone dell'Automobile of Turin in 1962.
The Cisitalia badges must have been put on as a gimmick by a clever car dealer to make the car sell at a higher price!
Sincerely,
Lorenzo Marchesini
