Thank Goodness It's Friday, August 15, 2003, because at 8:00 a.m., the FCA-Pacific Region will be gathering at the San Carlos Beach Park in Monterey's historic Cannery Row (south end of Cannery Row, adjacent to the Coast Guard Wharf or two blocks south of the Monterey Bay Plaza Hotel) for a Show & Shine and special avant-garde breakfast. This will be a casual Club event that allows for staging your car/s at the center of the Monterey Bay tourist trail for all to appreciate, while allowing you the freedom to wander the shops, Aquarium, the R.M. Auction preview at the Double Tree Hotel, the outstanding selection of restaurants from Cannery Row to the Wharf, and much more. Please meet at the Casa Munras Hotel at 7:45 a.m. if you want to play follow the leader to the park.
The registration fee is $20/person, which includes paid reserved parking on Cannery Row (8:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.). Breakfast will only be served to registered participants who have Club wrist bracelets (to be distributed at the park); and because we want to make sure that we have ample amounts of elixirs, please register with payment before August 1st (see below for remittance address on the Cannery Row portion only).
Concours Auto Rally
At 1:00 p.m., for those that want to enjoy even more car stuff, our Regional Director, Peter George, and other Board members will be leading a Ferrari procession to downtown Pacific Grove where you and your car can be a part of Pacific Grove's Concours Auto Rally, with the entry fees benefiting the Pacific Grove Youth Action, Inc. and the Pacific Grove Rotary Club. The FCA-Pacific Region will have a dedicated area on Lighthouse Ave. for Ferrari placement, which will include various Ferrari regalia and accoutrement vendors.
This year the organizers of the Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally will be celebrating 100 years of Ford Racing and 40 years of Mustang/Cobra. All along Lighthouse Ave. will be automotive displays, antique shops, restaurants, vendors, and more to see and enjoy. The cost for the Concours Only part of the event along Lighthouse Ave. (1:00-5:30) is $45 per car; at 6:30 there will be a Ride & Drive through 17 Mile Drive to the destination, BBQ at Chautauqua Hall ($10 for Driver and $20 for additional meals). Lancia arrives from Budrio--next stop Monterey
The Lancia 2000 of Lorenzo Marchesini has arrived in the United
States, and is being readied for its cross continent trip to
Monterey. "It is wonderful to have it back in the family again," said Marchesini. "It's in great shape and runs perfectly."
The car will also be featured in the Concorso program book.
New and interesting Websites
Recently, two websites have come to our attention, and both
are goldmines for those who would like to find great historical
photographs.
The first is Edgar Motorsport Archive. William Edgar, who is also writing
the Phil Hill 250MM story for VeloceToday, has established a website
featuring his huge collection of 1950s period photos. "Over the past fifty years, I have preserved hundreds of sports car racing images from the golden era of the sport during the 1950s," writes Edgar. "This collection began with John Edgar and his own photographs, and with those he gathered and kept during his years as a pioneer and major team owner in sports car racing in the United States following World War II. EMA's Photographs Archive is continually updated."
