Letters, Coming events

In the article by Werner Pfister with images from Concorso Italiano, your editor (not Mr. Pfister) incorrectly identified a Mangusta as a Pantera. The responses from our readers were immediate and numerous. Here a selected few:

CAN THIS BE ANYTHING ELSE THAN A DE TOMASO PANTERA?

Hi Pete,
Love to read your publication. Have moved back to Australia from Germany and taken my ASA GT 1000 as well. That makes 2 in Australia now. There is plenty of activity down here with many rallyes and Italian theme displays. Seems that Australia had a love affair with Italian cars in the 60's so we have no shortage of great classics. Look forward to the next issue.

I'm sorry to inform you that the picture with the caption: "CAN THIS BE ANYTHING ELSE THAN A DE TOMASO PANTERA?" is most certainly something else. A DeTomaso Mangusta, in fact. You produce a really great magazine, nonetheless.

Dear Pete!

I am sure that you are getting millions of e-mail about this subject; ...yes, it can be something else than a Pantera as it actually is a Mangusta. Sorry to have to point this out for you. Otherwise I am enjoying your site very much. It can be a joke of course from your side but that is not needed I think.

Best regards Berné Bertini

You list a DeTomaso Mangusta as a Pantera. The Mangusta is owned by Tom Galli.

SFOW ANNOUNCES SECOND MASERATI ENTRY FOR VIR

The SFoW Maserati team, 2002 and 2003 Rolex Sports Car Series GT Champions, today announced that they will run a second Maserati Trofeo Light GT. The first entry for the new car will be at the upcoming VIR 400 Presented by Sun Trust, on October 3rd.

The new #34 Maserati joins the team's familiar #33, and will be sponsored by Algar Maserati, the authorized Maserati dealer for the Philadelphia area, and Putnam Leasing. Jeff Segal and Darius Grala have been named to drive the Maserati. "This is another significant step toward our 2005 program," explained Glenn Marquis, SFoW Team Manager. "Maserati Corse has incorporated everything we've learned into the new car, and having two cars is a major assist to our development program. I also think the fans are going to enjoy the sounds of two of these exceptional V8s on the track."

Jeff Segal honed his skills in BMW club racing before joining the Ferrari Challenge in 2003. He has been a consistent top finisher, taking his first win in only his second race in the series. Segal is combining his college studies with his racing career. Darius Grala began racing in 1999, in the Sports Toyota series. He later moved to the Ferrari Challenge, winning that championship in 2002.

The VIR 400 Presented by Sun Trust will be televised live on the SPEED Channel, beginning at noon (EST) on Sunday, October 3. Further information on the Maserati Coupe and Spyder, the Maserati Trofeo Light GT, and the SFoW may be found at www.MaseratiGT.com.
