Your Editor and his wife Mary celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary last weekend and found this fading photo hidden in the pages of an old book. The photo dates from 1969, shortly before we were married. The Alfa was but one of many; Mary was the one and only.

Happy Anniversary – may you enjoy many more.
Nice to see a couple that has stayed together.
In ’69 I also married (for the first time). My first Alfa – a ’62 Giulia Spyder bought new in Milan for … $2,250 – was already history (Ford and Chrysler were clients – they didn’t take kindly to suppliers driving non-corporate branded cars).
And a red Spyder in the corner lot really was not well received.
In that era, GM would meet with suppliers, the context of which was ‘GM is x% of your business, yet only (x-y)% of the cars in your lot are made by us. Shall we adjust the amount of business we do with you … or will you adjust your parking lot?’
Strong-arm? Gee, no. Just asking …
The Father of the Mustang inveigled and soon I was driving a new ’66 HiPer Mustang GT convertible – ‘Cudas would not be available as ragtops until the next year.
The ‘stang went on to become iconic – but the Giulia still kicks my pulse higher – as do most Alfas.
Again, Congratulations on your Anniversay. May you have many more years to enjoy each other.
And at least the occasional Alfa.

Pete, as we say down South, “You done good”. And from what I’ve seen, Mary is pretty fair with a camera as well. Congratulations!

Good for you both. Congratulations.
And many more … only seven years to Fifty.
Pete:
Wonderful story, congratulations!
You are very fortunate to have found Mary.
But tell us more about the many Alfas, including the “one of many.”

Congratulations Pete and Mary. You both have proved excellent taste and remarkable patience. No one is suggesting it was easy, but we know it was fun.

Pete:
We could replace your wife with my and in 1969 the picture would have been identical. There were not mant Alfas in Vermont back then.
Wow. Really nice looking. And the car looks good, too. Congrats.
