Post Season Rally News: In English and Italian

In third place was Audi long distance runner Dindo Capello at the wheel with the second DS3 WRC, delayed by a tire puncture in the last special stage. Rally newcomer Alessandro Perico, driving a Citroen C4 WRC, finished in fourth place, ahead of the Spaniard Dani Sordo on the Mini WRC.

But Sebastien Loeb didn’t miss a shot and, after winning the rally and also won the Masters’ Show Marco Simoncelli Trophy, a tribute to the late motorcycle racer.

Loeb won the challenge on the difficult and narrow circuit created on Monza’s starting straight. Two drivers competed in every competition and one was eliminated in every step, similar to a drag race.

Mikko Hirvonen: Testing with Citroen

Hirvonen tested the Citroen DS3 WRC with which he will participate in the WRC 2012. Sebastien Ogier: Going to VW

On 23 November, VW officially announced the hiring of Sebastien Ogier, who then began his test with the VW Polo R WRC, the car which will take part in the World Rally Championship in 2013. Kris Nissen, Volkswagen Motorsport Director, said “Sebastien Ogier will be at the start of the series World Championship at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia S2000 run by the official team of the German House.” We assume this means he’ll be driving the Skoda in 2012.

Jari-Matti Latvala wins in Spain

In the same weekend in the south of France, fresh from the victory in the Rally Great Britain, Jari-Matti Latvala and his Ford Focus RS WRC entered the Rallye du Var, part of the French Rally Championship. For Latvala it was the first victory in a rally entirely on asphalt. Latvala won six of the twelve special stages, remaining in command from the first to the last special.

“It’s my first victory in a rally full of asphalt, is a good feeling,” said Latvala, who beat a Subaru WRC driven by Stephane Sarrazin. “The race was harder than I expected. The stages in the mountains have been the most difficult with the wet road and partly dry grip and a continuous change.”

Per il mondo dei rally, l’ultima settimana di novembre è stata una settimana movimenta e ricca di avvenimenti con lunghe ore di test privati e gare emozionanti.

Hirvonen ha testato la Citroën DS3 WRC con cui parteciperà al mondiale 2012, sul tracciato di Dalías, vicino ad Almería in Spagna e, nonostante il cattivo tempo, ha potuto lavorare a lungo sul setup della vettura. Dopo questa prima prova, Hirvonen proseguirà i suoi test per la preparazione del Rally di Montecarlo

Il 23 novembre, la VW ha ufficializzato l’ingaggio di Sébastien Ogier, che ha poi iniziato i suoi test con la VW Polo R WRC, vettura con cui prenderà parte al World Rally Championiship nel 2013. Come ha dichiarato Kris Nissen, direttore della Volkswagen Motorsport, Sebastien Ogier sarà al via della serie iridata al volante di una Skoda Fabia S2000 gestita dalla squadra ufficiale della Casa tedesca.

Ma, come abbiamo accennato, oltre ai test privati delle Case impegnate nel prossimo World Rally Championiship, i campioni del mondo dei rally si sono messi in gioco in rally ‘minori’ per il solo piacere di correre e far felici gli appassionati.
Nel fine settimana trascorso tra il 25 e il 27 novembre, Sébastien Loeb, assistito dalla moglie Severin come co-pilota, ha dominato il Monza Rally Show.

L’alsaziano e la sua Citroën DS3 WRC hanno vinto 7 delle 9 prove speciali in programma, terminando la gara con 24″2 secondi di vantaggio su Valentino Rossi alla guida di una Ford Fiesta WRC.
Al terzo posto ha concluso Dindo Capello, per l’occasione al volante della seconda DS3 WRC, ritardato nell’ultima speciale da una foratura ad uno pneumatico. Alessandro Perico, al volante di un Citroën C4 WRC, ha concluso la gara al 4° posto, precedendo lo specialista spagnolo Dani Sordo, sulla Mini WRC.

Ma Sébastien Loeb non ha sbagliato un colpo e, dopo la vittoria del rally, ha vinto anche il Masters’ Show – Trofeo Marco Simoncelli.
Loeb ha vinto la sfida sul difficile toboga sviluppato davanti alle tribune sul rettifilo di partenza del tracciato brianzolo, in una competizione vissuta su sfide a due.

Dopo le eliminazioni, la finale non ha avuto storia, dato che Rossi ha sbattuto più volte contro le gomme ed è finito anche in testacoda, causando lo spegnimento del propulsore della sua vettura.
Da sottolineare che Loeb era comunque più veloce del pesarese e, al momento del ritiro di Valentino, era al comando.
Al termine della gara Loeb ha detto: ”Severine, Ha fatto un ottimo lavoro dall’inizio alla fine, è stata un’ottimo navigatore” poi ha aggiunto ” La mia DS3 non era un vettura ufficiale, ma la differenza era minima. Questo Rally è stata una piacevole vacanza, una piccola pausa prima di riprendere il lavoro!’

Per Severine Loeb era prima volta che saliva a bordo della DS3 WRC, ed è stata una ottima occasione per accompagnare il marito sul lavoro. Severine ha dichiarato: “ E’ stata un’esperienza fantastica anche se è più uno spettacolo che non un vero rally.
Di tanto in tanto mi piace fare il co-pilota e vincere a Monza è stato bello, anche perché non ho fatto errori. “

Nello stesso fine settimana, nel sud della Francia, ancora caricato dalla vittoria conquistata nel Rally GB, ultima prova del Mondiale rally, Jari-Matti Latvala e la sua fida Ford Fiesta RS WRC si sono imposti nel Rallye du Var, gara valida per il campionato francese Rally. Per Latvala è stata la prima vittoria in un rally totalmente su asfalto. Latvala si è aggiudicato 6 delle 12 prove speciali, rimanendo al comando dalla prima all’ultima delle speciali.

“E’ la mia prima vittoria in un rally completamente su asfalto, è una bella sensazione”, ha detto Latvala, che ha battuto la Subaru WRC condotta da Stephane Sarrazin. “La gara è stata più difficile di quanto mi aspettassi. Le tappe in montagna sono state le più difficili con la strada in parte umida, e in parte asciutta e un grip in continuo cambiamento.”
