February 20, 2018 By pete

Story and photos by Alessandro Gerelli

During the long weekend of the Retromobile in Paris, as usual three auctions took place: RM Sotheby’s, Bonhams and Artcurial have had their sales with good results. About 350 cars were auctioned, of which 25% were not sold. The total amount sold was about 70 million euros.

$636,000 for a Ferrari GTE (ne 250GT 2+2)!! Go back to 1966 in New Orleans. There was one on a used car lot for $1500. I should have bought it!

Whenever I hear someone tell of a car they should’ve bought now that they see what it’s worth has become, I always ask, ” Well now that you’ve learned a lesson what are you buying now?”.

I had a Ferrari 250 GTE. It was a driver and I purchased it in 1974 for $3,500. Five years later, I sold it as a part of a divorce (the Ferrari was not the issue). I thought I did really well with it. I doubled my money…$7,000! Ah, the good old days.
