Right before I left for Silverstone, your kindly Editor asked me to keep an eye out for any French oddities which might appear. At the auction, I found these two, both of which definitely fit the bill. Color photos by Roy Smith.
First, the Eolia- a race car constructed by André George Claude, of Satecmo tuning and the Claude gearbox companies. Claude had competed in the Tour de France, the Alpine Rally and the Mont Ventoux hill climb. With Pierre Ferry, he entered the 1950 Le Mans race with a car engineered by Ferry. It had front-mounted 4cv engine with a five-speed transmission developed by Claude. In 1951, he entered Le Mans 24 Hours with a Satecmo-modified 4CV.
