Last week Jonathan Sharp sent us a report which highlighted the cars of the Flywheel Festival and some of the many shops which now permanently inhabit the old RAF base. This week Sharp gathered up the photos take of the cars running on the adjacent test track. This is a pretty complete facility and a vintage racer’s dream.

Located on one of the oldest and best-preserved RAF bases in the UK and only 60 miles northwest of London, Bicester Heritage is a hub for classic car businesses, now with 30 trades on one historic site, compete with a test track. It is the realization of a dream of Dan Geoghegan, who purchased the 348 acre airfield and its 50 buildings from the Ministry of Defense for £3.4million and began work in 2013. Two events in four days kicked of the 2015 year, and it was only January! On January the 1st the now-regular gathering in the ancient town of Stony Stratford saw the car parks closed to regular visitors and the high street choc a block with exotica. (See my report in last week’s VeloceToday.) The big one though was to follow just three days later on January 4th, at the Bicester Heritage Sunday Brunch Scramble in England. The rapidly expanding quarterly meeting where the news was that registrations had closed over a week before due to being heavily oversubscribed. 800 cars were due with Morgan being the major invited marque. A sunny day as was originally forecast and everyone was hopeful.

All 51 Morgans. The chill didn't stop them from coming, and coming, and coming.

Roy Smith returned from Bicester with hundreds of photos; we chose enough to allow the reader to get a sense of this incredible and historic “industrial park”. When finished, the Bicester Heritage Park will be stunning and a fitting place to store and restore vehicles and airplanes. [Ed.]

Here is news of an event that is rapidly gaining in popularity in the UK. I had the good fortune to be invited to take one of my cars along to the October 5th Edition of the Bicester Heritage Sunday Brunch Scramble. Maybe the word egg should go after scramble, because it’s “the” place to go for breakfast on one of these open days.

Bicester Heritage is the UK’s first industrial park for the restoration and storage of vintage and classic cars, motorcycles and aeroplanes. It is already a hub of a great deal of activity on all three fronts. The location is iconic, being 348 acres of a historic RAF bomber station first established in the First World War.
