Stop: Forget rivet counts and restoration details.
Stop: Enlarge each photo by clicking on it to double the size. Slow it down.
Stop: Enjoy the ambiance for there is nothing else quite like it in the world.
Stop: Look at the faces, feel the tension, imagine the noise, thrill with the excitement.
For this is Goodwood at its most glorious, and how great it would be there to see and hear and feel what Jonathan Sharp did on that wonderful September day in 2019.

79th Goodwood Member’s Meeting, 2022

April 18, 2022 By pete

1956 Renault 4CV entered by Frederic Fatien, driven by Pierre-Brice Mena, Sopwith Cup for saloon cars of a type that raced up until 1956.

Story and Photos by Jonathan Sharp

Did you know, the rear lights of a Porsche 956 are the same as those fitted to a late 1970s Eriba Puck Caravan? No, neither did I, Thanks Gary Axon and Goodwood Radio for that wonderful piece of trivia.

Why am I mentioning Porsche 956s? Well the recent 79th Goodwood Members Meeting included a track demonstration of 956/962s, twenty of them. Also demonstrated/displayed were approximately 20 F1 cars from the V10 era, lead on the track by Bruno Senna in his uncle’s 1990 McLaren Honda MP4/5B, a wonderful sight and an amazing sound. In addition to the demos the program also included 13 races covering a period from prior to WW2 right up until Group 1 saloons from the 1980s.

Goodwood: Will it last?

Til next year, Arturo….we hope.

Goodwood: The showcase of our passion…

There is nothing like Goodwood in the world; in our humble opinion and that of our two veteran race correspondents, Jonathan Sharp and Hugues Vanhoolandt, Goodwood puts on the three (Member’s Meeting, Festival of Speed, and the Goodwood Revival) greatest classic motoring events on earth and supreme showcases for our passion.

…is in trouble…

Every year we take for granted the long list of famous drivers, spectacular cars, shows, displays and outstanding racing, and assume it will always be there, bigger and better. But that may not always be the case. Due to the cancellation of all three of this year’s events, Goodwood is facing serious financial difficulties. According to the Goodwood Supporters Association, “…social distancing has had a catastrophic impact on our ability to operate. It is a worrying time and we are doing what we can to salvage a future for our events. We rely on our headline events to generate all of our operating profit, their absence places not only future events but even the long-term future of the estate under considerable strain.” [Read more…] about Goodwood: Will it last?

Entered into the Salvadori cup for sports racing cars of a type which raced between 1955 and 1960, the 1957 Ferrari 500 TRC of David Cottingham (DK Engineering) at speed. To celebrate the spring equinox the Goodwood team planted 300 thousand daffodil bulbs hence the splash of color.

To the uninitiated it must have seemed strange to call a new race meeting the 72nd Members meeting, held on March 29-30 2014.

This was not technically a new event, but a revival of older and very well established event. Years ago, the members meetings at Goodwood were run for members of the British Automobile Racing club. The first Members Meeting took place on the 18th September 1948. The 71st Members meeting (they were more than annual) was the final race meeting held at the Goodwood Motor Circuit on the 2nd July 1966, just before the circuit’s closure. These meetings attracted many a future top driver as well as the more down to earth club racers and were as popular for the members for the social side as to the racing itself.
