RM Sotheby’s at Milano Auctoclassica, November 25-27 2016

An auction with 400 cars plus many motorbikes and bikes, plus few boats, engines, parts, signs, etc, is quite an event!

All the cars were presented without any reserve and with very reasonable estimates.(In fact the estimates must have been on the very conservative side). The success of the event was very great and everything was sold and, speaking about the cars, only around twenty have been sold below the maximum of the estimate. Milano AutoClassica has a format unique in its kind: according to the PR, it offers “a winning blend of historic brands, past glories with current models and future previews of all the best that automobile manufacturers have in store.”

In other words, as with most huge classic car shows today, there is something for everyone, including test drives. So much, in fact that the event takes place twice a year, once in spring and the other in autumn; we reported on the March event earlier this year. And it is growing; the event in March saw a 15 % increase in attendance, and figures for the 6th edition held on November 25-27 show indicate an 18% increase from March. Next year however, there will only be one event instead of two. [Read more…] about Milan’s Autoclassica, Fall Edition

Milano Autoclassica, held between March 18 and 20, is a rather recent event for Milano but it has grown every year. This year the show attracted more than 50,000 visitors.

It is held in Milano Rho Fiera complex, and easily reached also by underground or train.

Inside there is a huge space for car exhibition, dealers and spare parts and also a small outdoor circuit for test drives.

As usual many Italian old cars exhibited by dealers and clubs, and an auction by Pananti with a few interesting cars and automobilia. Below, only a few of the many cars and items that were on display this year.

A brief description from the Milan Autoclassica website: “Milano AutoClassica is dedicated to enthusiasts, specialists in the field and whoever wants to draw closer to the fascinating world of Classic Cars. One major goal is to spread the love of our hobby among the younger and more dynamic generations. Following on from the successful outcome of the first two editions and the huge success of the third, Milano Autoclassica returned in 2015, even bigger and better than before. Covering a more extensive exhibition area, with ample areas to test-drive the cars in the open and special events planned for enthusiasts, the curious, and newcomers, making it possible to fully experience classical and sporting cars, together with the world that revolves around them: magnificent vehicles, accessories, special events and Guest Cars; restorers, registers, models, and an area dedicated to private sales.”

As Gerelli notes, the atmosphere is much different than that of France’s Retromobile, where the old car dealers are of a higher class. But even for a long time trouper like Gerelli, there is always something he has never seen before…as his photos below indicate.

Story and photos by Roberto Motta

The second edition of Milan AutoClassica, held between February 22 and 24, is an event that is rapidly becoming a key venue for lovers of glorious cars of the past.

There were several legendary cars from the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, whose exhibition kicked off the celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of the Chiti Autodelta works. These include the TZ, the 1300 GTA, the 33/2 Daytona, the 33TT12 that won the World Sports Car Championship in ’75 and ’77, and the 179 F1 experimental.
