As can be seen from the above image, Hugues Vanhoolandt rarely misses a beat or someone’s mechanical misfortune. His selection of thousands of images taken at Goodwood this year had to be narrowed down to only 25 images; certainly not fair for him or our readers. So, have at it….

Ferrari was celebrated at this year’s Revival for among other successes, its five World Sportcar Championship titles in the 50s. Therefore 1950s drum-braked Ferrari Sports Prototypes had their dedicated race called The Lavant Cup. 750 Monza, 250 GT Tour de France, 250 GT Europa and 375 MM formed the most of the field.

The engine of the winner of The Lavant Cup, a 1957 Ferrari 500 TRC s/n 0682 MDTR, an ex-Ecurie Francorchamps car.

Also from the 50s, this Maserati A6GCS of 1955 was entered in the Freddie March Memorial Trophy, a race in the spirit of the Goodwood Nine Hours that took place in 1952, 1953 and 1955.

The Jaguar C-Type is in its element at Goodwood but in period, it was always an Aston Martin that won the Goodwood Nine Hours.

Sportscars again but from late 50s and early 60s with this pair of Maseratis Tipo 61 ‘Birdcage’ entered respectively by Nick Mason and Stephan Rettenmaier in the Sussex Trophy.

The Brooklands Trophy was for sports cars in the spirit of the Brooklands endurance races prior to 1939 and counted some Maseratis, like this 8C 3000, or Alfa Romeos 8Cs.

Despite looking like a desperate situation, all ended well for Martin Halusa and his Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 MM. Although racing expensive machines, drivers are most of the time near the limit and sometimes beyond.

The Brooklands Trophy finally went to Neil Twyman in the 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2600 ‘Muletto’.

The Goodwood Trophy, for Grand Prix and Voiturette cars that raced between 1930 and 1950, starts the 2nd day of the Revival weekend and is the favorite playground of the British ERAs that usually dominate the top spots.

fgsgfsg

The Goodwood Trophy grid is very diversified as you see this Bugatti Type 51 sharing the track with the more modern 1948 Talbot-Lago Type 26 Grand Prix car.

Contemporary of the Talbot, the Bugatti Type 73C of Tom Dark, 6th behind 4 ERAs and a Maserati 6CM.

A bit of oversteer at Madgwick corner for Julian Majzub and his 1938 Alfa Romeo 308C.

The Earl of March Trophy was for 500cc Formula Three cars that raced between 1948 and 1959. It is remarkable that most of these cars had already engines mounted in the rear well before this became popular in Formula 1.

The Glover Trophy featured unblown 1.5 liter F1 cars from the 1961 to 1965 period, with a grid mainly constituted with Brabhams, BRMs, Coopers, Lolas and Lotus.

fsgdfg

Two famous Scotsmen were attending, Jackie Stewart, three times F1 World Champion, and Dario Franchitti, three times Indy 500 winner.

dsfgfdg

Fifty years ago, on the 19th April 1965, Jackie Stewart, in a BRM, and Jim Clark, in a Lotus, both made the Goodwood circuit lap record in 1 min 20.4 sec during the International Trophy Race. Jackie and Dario were united to commemorate that page of the history of Goodwood.

dsfdsafd

Bonhams Auction house was selling a trio of Scarabs including the 1959 F1 single seater chassis 001, driven in period by Lance Reventlow and Chuck Daigh.

sdfsdffds

Marco Cajani and the Scuderia del Portello are Goodwood Revival regulars. This year they entered this Alfa Romeo 1900 Touring coupe in the Fordwater Trophy for production sports and GT cars raced between 1948 and 1954.

dsafsdfs

Alongside the Fiat 8V is a 1954 Arnott of which six chassis were made. They could be built by the factory or supplied in kit form. This one is equipped with a Lea Francis engine and a fiberglass body.

The first part of the St Mary’s Trophy saw the most thrilling race of the weekend and, some say, of all the Revival meetings to date with a fierce battle between Frank Stippler on his 1600 GTA and a pair of Ford Lotus Cortinas.

dsfsdsd

But it was finally the 9-times Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen on his Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt who took the laurels, coming back from 29th on the grid after problems in practice!

sdfsdfsfs

The most awaited race of the meeting was the RAC TT Celebration on Sunday afternoon, a one-hour, two-driver race for GT cars between 1960 and 1964. Bamford and de Cadenet finished 14th in the Anthony Bamfor- entered 250 GTO/64.

dfsadf

12th OA and best placed Ferrari were Ames/Halusa in the 250 GT SWB ‘Breadvan’.

dsfgdfg

To compete for the top places in the RAC TT nowadays, you need a Cobra, here driven a bit over the limit by Frank Stippler, or a Jaguar E-Type. This is an E-Type that finally won, driven by Englishmen Chris Ward and Gordon Shedden.

500cc f3 cars were origanly rear engened as that was the simplest way arrange the drive when using motorcycle engines and gearbox. This was a simple formula to get people into racing cheaply after ww2.
