VeloceToday Award gets bigger
Might you own something different, ahead of it’s time, and superbly engineered? As we announced last week, the VeloceToday La Dolce Vita Trophy will be presented at the new La Dolce Vita event for “The car with the most advanced production engineering for its era”. It will be open to any vehicle entered. Plus in addtion to the VeloceToday trophy is a cash prize of $250 and a new book worth $185. So enter, NOW! Email Cindy@carprusa.com or call 480 277-1864.
The criteria for the awards are:
Advanced suspension and drivetrain designs.
Advanced engineering in engine design, materials, layout and placement.
Advanced coachwork and interior which compliments the advance mechanical elements of the design.
If two or more vehicles of the same model are both eligible, the award will be given to the best restored car.
Also included in the VeloceToday prize is the new book by Fred Simeone and Michael Furman, worth $185 and contributed by the publisher, www.Coachbuilders.com.
The award will also include a copy of the Simeone Foundation’s new book, “The Spirit of Competition” by Dr. Fred Simeone and Photographer Michael Furman. Furman photographed the Simeone collection of truly great cars, such as the Alfa Romeo 2.9, the Bugatti T57 Tank, the Ford Mark IV, the first Cobra coupe and every one of the 65 cars in the museum. Dr. Simeone delightfully tells the story of each car. Read our review in this issue.
In addition, VeloceToday will present a $250 check to be made out to the Shriner’s Foundation in the name of the winner. In other words, we foot the bill, the winner gives to charity, and gets the credit. Got it?
The winner will have a full feature article about his car in the electronic pages of VeloceToday. Provided someone out there takes GOOD photos.
Of course the biggest thrill might be just receiving the award from the MC, Larry Crane. Crane will be there not only to tell stories, amuse the crowd and in general be the life of the party, but he is also representing VeloceToday. We’ve told him to not only give the award away, but choose the winner himself. No committee here. What Crane says goes.
Autobooks in Burbank has arranged for a display of great Citroens at this year’s La Dolce Vita. So bring your French car and qualify to win the VeloceToday trophy.
So how do you win?
First be there. Enter now if you haven’t already. This is going to be a neat, laid back event with real car people, people who appreciate and understand the cars we love.
Second, bring a neat car. We love old techie stuff, de Dion rear ends, odd engines, weird drive trains, sophisticated suspension, beautiful and or functional coachwork. We love Lancias and Citroens, Abarths, and Dyna Panhards and Alfa Romeos.
Third, clean the machine. Ties will be decided by the best restored car. Regard “best” as sympathetic.
Fourth, Hang around to see if you win. Don’t leave early before the winners are announced. You’ll want to meet Crane and get that book, check and Trophy in your hand.
Jay Streets says
LOve the picture of my Citroen. What a suprise to see ones car on a blog that I read.
Unfortunately, just after I entered the Traction in the show, a large pile of Chord wood colapsed on the drivers side. The car will be at the show, and still looks good from the pasanger side, but the nice reflection you see in the photo is not so nice any more.
