Ferrari’s Birthplace Now a Museum

March 21, 2012 By Gerelli

Alessandro Gerelli captures the old and the new.

Photos by Alessandro Gerelli

We’re sure everyone has seen the news about the opening of the Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari. We are also sure that no one covers it better than VeloceToday. No PR here, but a good many insights from the Man himself.

 ferrari-museum

The workshop next to the new Museum building: ‘My brother and I shared a room over the workshop and were awakened in the morning by the ringing of the hammers. My father Alfredo…made gangways and sheds for the State Railways.’—Enzo Ferrari

The photo is at the entrance of the old buiding and reads 'I am the one who dreamt of being Ferrari.' The yellow museum poster reads 'If you can dream it, you can do it.'

The Ferrari house has been completely restructured and adapted as an art gallery. Enzo Ferrari’s activities during his life are displayed via multimedia with video, documents and car displays. A very futuristic building has been built side by side to the old house: the new structure, when seen from above, looks like the bonnet of a car in yellow, the color of Modena. The new building was designed by Jan Kaplichy, who unfortunately died in 2009 without seeing the final result of his genius. It was completed by Andrea Morgante of the Shiro Studio. At the beginning of 1960s, I was a boy attending high school who didn’t know anything about cars; my family didn’t even own one.

But automobiles suddenly got my attention and quickly expanded to include the car-racing world, where I quickly discovered the existence of a brand called Ferrari, competing in many different classes.

Mille Miglia at Brescia with Alessandro Gerelli

May 18, 2011 By Gerelli

One of our most outstanding long term contributors has been the Milanese Alessandro Gerelli who first came to these pages in 2002 with a story about his experiences at Monza: Monza, a Personal Look.

From then on Gerelli has never stopped filing excellent stories from all over Europe and the U.K, and even the United States. From 2004 on, Alessandro provided the color in blue and red for every single Mille Miglia event, rain or shine.

As we kickoff VeloceToday’s First Ten Years Celebration (yes, it’s been that long), we present the below urls from Gerelli’s coverage of this great event since 2004, and cap it off with the Mille Miglia of 2011.

We thank you again, Mr. Gerelli!

A few bright spots at Geneva, but overall the cars are depressingly unnattractive, fat, frumpy. And what can we say of the Fiat Lancia Flavia Chrysler? We’ll let our readers voice their opinions; be sure to scroll down to see what Fiat/Chrysler has in store for us. [Ed.]

The first major event of the Cavallino Classic XX was the Florida Trophy, a two-day track meet at Palm Beach International Raceway on Thursday and Friday, January 20 & 21. Over 120 competition Ferraris revived memories of past and present glory, as their owners drove these historic machines again in a race course setting.

Saturday was the concorso at the Breakers, and finally Sunday the last event in Mar-a-Lago, a wonderful club in Palm Beach: not only Ferraris but also a lot of fantastic old cars including Rolls, Mercedes, Cunningham, etc. Below are photos from Mar-a-Lago and Palm Beach International.

Gerelli in Paris, 2010

Photos and captions by Alessandro Gerelli

Alessandro brought back the exciting, the electric, the eclectic and the elderly from the Paris Auto Show, held between October 2nd and 17th 2010. As usual, there was a large showing of classic and antiques in addition to the latest offerings from around the world. We mixed them up to remind ourselves that somethings change and others don’t, but we like them all.
