F1 Update: Roberto Motta Reports from Monza

September 19, 2013 By Roberto

Alonso is doing better than the rest of the also-rans.

Photos by Roberto Motta

We woke up one morning to find that our Italian correspondent Roberto Motta had sent us his photos from the F1 practice at Monza. Suddenly we realized that the season was almost over (it was MONZA already!) and we had yet to watch one race.

Although VeloceToday has covered every single Grand Prix race since 2002, we finally gave up in despair this year as no one was watching, us anyway. And so it seems that way for Speed TV too, who gave up the series to Fox who then gave the franchise, perhaps like a hot potato, to NBC Sports, who in turn has not handled it well, according the viscous vibes coming from NBC readers (on their own site!). And while the Austin F1 is still with us, and may or may not be televised on normal NBC this year, the New York/New Jersey effort seems to have stalemated.

But the beat goes on. So, to catch up then, let’s show you some of the main contenders this year along with current championship point standings after Monza. Note; they are in order, but not all have photos. Thanks for Roberto Motta’s great photography and for waking us up.

Sebastian-Vettel, Red Bull lead the championship with 222 points.

Fernando Alonso, again second up with a miserable 169 points and only two wins.

Kimi Raikkonen, Lotus, in fourth place in the championship with 134 points. Kimi Raikkonen will be back with Ferrari for the next two years. The Maranello team made it known that they had reached an agreement the 11th September.

Mark Webber, 130 points.

Massa is still with Ferrari but only amassed 79 points for the season. Exit left.

In ninth place in the standing is Jenson Button, with 49 points.

Paul di Resta, Force India in 10th with 36 points.

Mad Mexican Sergio Perez with only 18 points total.

Nico Hulkenberg, Sauber, 11th with 17 points.

Pastor-Maldonado, Williams, only one point this year.

Esteban-Gutierrez and his Sauber recorded no points yet this year.

Lastly Charles Pic in the Caterham F1, zero points.

Ho hum. I guess we haven’t missed too much after all..

Did Lewis Hamilton drop out of the standings? I seem to recall that he has a few more points than most of the “also-rans”.

Please explain why he dropped out.

    Jerry,

We didn’t list the entire standings results, only those who had a photo as taken by Motta. Lewis Hamilton – Mercedes is in third place with 141 points and one win.
