Giro d’Italia Reborn
110 years after the very first Giro d’Italia this classic event returns to the Italian peninsula, departing from Turin and reaching Rome after five days of competition and nearly 1600 kilometers. The Giro d’Italia will bring together the cars from both the world of rallying and track competition in a unique and grueling test.

The born-again classic will take begin in Turin on October 25 and reach Rome on October 30th. It will be a series of races and a unique cultural event offering fans the world of both rallying and race track venues. The event will consist of five stages, ten special stages, five speed tests and three super special stages on the circuits and be held under the auspices of the Automobile Club of Torino, which will present the Piemonte Tecno Trophy.

As mentioned, the new Giro d’Italia is open to both rally and race cars, and will allow participation of GT Supercar racing and the WRC cars. There are also classes for classic cars built from 1973 to 1980. That includes the Lancia Stratos, the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo, Porsche 935 Turbo, Porsche 911 GT, Ferrari 308 GTB, 131 and 124 Abarth Fiat, Opel Kadett and Ascona, Alfa Romeo 175.

Many non-Italians may not be familiar with the history of the Giro d’Italia, which was much like the famous Tour de France. Next week we’ll provide many more images from the Giro d’Italia website and more of the background of the event. Below, a small selection of the cars that entered the Giro d’Italia from 1973-1980 and more next week. The link to the site is:

Rivive il Giro d’Italia Automobilistico

110 anni dopo il primo Giro d’Italia e 150 anni dopo l’Unità d’Italia, il Giro d’Italia Automobilistico torna a vivere. La manifestazione partirà da Torino per concludersi a Roma dopo cinque giorni di gara, seguendo un percorso di quasi 1600 km. Come nel passato, Il Giro d’Italia riunirà le vetture provenienti dal mondo dei rally e dalla pista in un unico ed estenuante lunghissimo test.

Il rinato Giro d’Italia Automobilistico, partirà il 25 ottobre dalla prima capitale d’Italia, Torino, e arriverà a Roma il 30 ottobre, seguendo un percorso di 1600 km, e sarà un evento culturale unico, in grado di soddisfare sia gli appassionati del mondo dei rally che quelli del mondo delle piste.

Il ’Giro’ sarà diviso in 5 tappe, 10 Prove Speciali, 5 Prove di Velocità, 3 Super Prove Speciali in circuito, e si svolgerà sotto l’egida dell’Automobile Club Torino – Trofeo Tecno Piemonte.

Come accennato precedentemente, il Giro d’Italia Automobilistico è una manifestazione aperta sia alle vetture da Rally sia a quelle da Pista, e consentirà la partecipazione delle Supercar Gran Turismo da pista e delle World Rally Car. Inoltre, potranno partecipare alla competizione le vetture che hanno alimentato la leggenda del Giro d’Italia nel periodo che va dal 1973 al 1980, e che comprende le Lancia Stratos, le Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo, Porsche 935 Turbo, Porsche 911 GT, Ferrari 308 GTB, Fiat 131 e 124 Abarth, Opel Ascona e Kadett, Alfa Romeo 175.

Gli appassionati non Italiani, spesso non conoscono la storia del Giro d’Italia, manifestazione che era molto simile al famoso Tour de France.
