By Pete Vack, Editor and Publisher
Someone recently told me that they weren’t ever going to contribute to some website unless they knew something about the people who were asking for his hard earned dollars. That makes sense, thought I. Since I am asking you for dollars, you have a right to know a little about your editor.
Suffice to say that I’ve been writing professionally since 1980 for a variety of national car magazines. I began online operations in 2001 with the team of Stephen Glenn and Allison Reed after co-founding the first fast press for automotive books, VelocePress, which is still going strong under new owners.
We don’t want to bore our readers with a detailed CV or resume. How about just a few tear sheets? (so called in analog days as they were ‘torn’ from magazines to show potential publishers) These are small sample of my articles published by the print media from 1985 to 2008. From 1985 to 1993 my published magazine articles were accompanied by photographer by my wife Mary Decker Vack, such as the one at the top of this story.
I want to make it clear too, that VeloceToday is fully supported by 20 automotive writers whose credentials are generally better than the editors! These writers create more that 70 percent of the articles in VeloceToday. Most have bios online here in the archives.
I’ve left much out, Road & Track, Vintage Motorsport, Victory Lane, AutoWeek, and a few others. But you get the picture. Food money over the years was provided by employment with AT&T, Tellabs and Ferrari of Washington.
Scroll down to see a list of the cars I’ve been lucky enough to own, race, rally, restore, repair and occasionally wreck.
Here’s a few of the more interesting cars which have dripped oil on your editor’s driveway. Most were daily vehicles driven to work including the Dino. American cars were owned by not listed. Those were the days.

It has been a true pleasure to represent Pete Vack and VeloceToday.com. Rarely does someone come along that is as dedicated to his readers and to delivering truly relevant information. He has done this out of pocket for years and now that we are 10,000+ subscribers strong (this awesome number does not count readers who find us through searches or through referrals to the site) Upgrades to the website are incredible and the reading experience is a pleasure. I hope that more people will support VeloceToday.com through a donation to Pete to keep this great effort alive and moving forward for years to come. If they have a business our Italian car and French car enthusiasts need to know about, I hope they will choose to place a banner ad on our site and newsletter which will also greatly support our efforts. Here’s to many more years of VeloceToday.com!

I contributed $50 to Veloce Today long before Pete’s current appeal for funds and I will contribute again now. I need my regular Veloce Today fix, and at even $5 an issue it is a bargain. May VT live long and prosper!

Pete wasn’t that Balilla owned by that lady in Richmond who brought it over from Ethopia? My friend Dave and I went and drove that car one time. I think we found out about it after/from that article you wrote.
Someday when we both get time we need to do another Alfa 164 article. I still have my Originale we used in your article some years back AND I have 5 more of them now.
