In the tradition of the famous Italian “sorcerers”, Romeo Ferraris of Milan started his tuning career with the Fiat 500 and since then has progressed from BMWs to Ferrari 360s, all of which were tweaked to unbelievable levels. His son Mario is now in charge of the business, but the game remains the same; high performance. The firm as just announced an “Extreme” version of the Abarth 500. The name chosen by Romeo Ferraris for the transformation of the 500 Abarth leaves no doubt of the intent. The new car is a blend of raw power and extreme emotions.
The Extreme 500 is a veritable power-house, thanks to 260 horses that the technicians were able to squeeze from the original 135 hp Abarth engine. The 500 Abarth is the first car equipped with the new kit, and this kit can be purchased separately and installed on any of the Scorpions 500’s, including the convertibles.
The new engine is able to produce 260 hp; the increased power is obtained by modifying the parameters of the ECU and replacing most of the standard components of the engine with high-performance items such as the turbine, injectors, racing pistons, camshafts and intercooler.
Thanks to all these new parts and the new intercooler, which cools the air exiting from the compressor before it is introduced into the engine in order to obtained more efficiently combustion, a higher amount of fuel can be inducted into the engine,
The exhaust system of the series was also completely revised with new components, such as the downpipe with metal catalyst that has taken the place of the normal ceramic catalyst. This allowed a drastic reduction in the number of cells, lower values of pressure, thus decreasing the response time of the turbocharger.
Also new is the dual output muffler that has a much more aggressive sound than the stock 500 Abarth. For maximum reliability the clutch kit was replaced with a special more durable material and the flywheel changed so that does not adversely affect the use of cars in city traffic. As an option the owner can request a six-speed sequential gearbox with limited slip differential.
The front standard braking system was replaced with Brembo cross-drilled disks with 280 mm in diameter and 4-piston calipers, and equipped with racing compound brake pads in order to guarantee safety in all conditions.
The 500 Extreme’s body is painted in the exclusive “Blu Pozzi,” usually reserved for the supercars like the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and 599 GTB. Inside are tobacco colors chosen for the grain leather sports seats and special paint for all the plastic parts.
Powerful and secure, but it is also fast and precise in cornering thanks to the new adjustable suspension that had taken the place of the original components, therefore enhancing the grip with great comfort in the daily use.
Like all the cars made by Romeo Ferraris, the 500 Extreme is equipped with Yokohama tires. Specifically, the 17-inch wheels are keyed Parada 205/40 R17 tires.
The kit can also be purchased separately and installed on any 500 Abarth, Cabrio included.

May we reprint this article in our club newsletter? We have been following developments relating to the new Cinquecento very closely. Besides the three members who have ordered the Prima Edizione, I am waiting to place my order for a 500 Sport.

While visiting our college kid at Uni in Lugano, Switzerland, I saw one of these little monsters at a local dealership and almost wet my pants. I am just wandering as to the reaction of the Merc and Beamer drivers on the Autobahns when one of these speed by.

I lost my brains for a second and thought I could continue my begin-less mid-life crisis by searching for one right now. OK, reality check. Back on Earth.
I think if FIAT can sort out Chrysler intelligently (a la Ford), it could introduce the 500 here and rival small performance Japanese all the way up to other Europeans. A slew of performance tuners and kits would be created and sold here. A win-win situation.

The Fiat 500 will be sold here. In fact, their pre-order program has already ended, with all of the cars snatched up. Check out http://www.fiatusa.com/en/index.html and https://www.ciaofiat500.com/. I’m not a huge 500 fan, with its somewhat Beetle-like nose. Although, I believe we are getting the Abarth version here in the states which should prove to be stiff competition for the performance versions of the the Mini Cooper; i.e., the S and John Cooper Works.

You guys are all gay!!! Same guys that stained their shorts when the mini and the beetle came out. Gay, gay, gay. Its a neon in the front, VW golf middle, and Mini in the rear. Move to Europe. I will admit, I like the C8
