Much Less Guessin’ in Essen

April 7, 2008 By pete

Thanks to our readers we’ve determined the identities of the cars at Essen in last week’s VeloceToday, as well as some thoughts and experiences regarding painted Webers. Still, we could use more information on that Fiat single seater!!.

Pete,
Talking to Don Black a few months ago, he asked if the Webers (on my ex-Don Black Siata) were still were still the enamel GREEN, as they came to him from the factory? No, now they are now 32’s and unpainted. But it leads me to believe that some could of been painted back in the day?

Jim Collins

Dear Editor,
You wonder if Webers were ever painted. The Weber 40 DCL carburettor fitted to the Lancia Aurelia 2500 GT was painted black.

Niels Jonassen

Pete,
It seems funny that you should ask “did they paint Webers?” in my morning issue of VT…..That question has been rattling around in my brain for a week or two now…. see Search for the Stanguellini Sports. I am on final approach as far as getting the Stanguellini painted…another few details and off it goes….It will be done by July..

Really red Webers.

While waiting for incoming parts, I am doing little details like running the oil pressure line, adding a spring to the manufactured hood latch, polishing the aluminum on the tail light housing…
and looking at old photos to see what else needs to be done…Well the Webers were painted on this original car…what color, I have no idea…but they were painted…I have one on my desk right now, and pondering the same question…”Should I paint the Webers?”…..I will send you photo’s when the car is “done”..Painted Webers or not!…….

Jim Jenne

Pete,
You should have looked on Etceterini.com because I have two pictures of that Ermini, one taken by my Father at the Mille Miglia

Cliff Reuter

Dear Sirs,
The Mehari (plastic beige colored Citroen) is not a two engine car, but instead a 4WD with a separate differential (Brtitish make) for the rear wheels. Because of the enormous groundclearance, the low weight and its performance it is much loved in trials..

Mystery car at Essen was an Ermini.

Dear Mr. Vack,

Established in Belgium, I am a long time reader of Veloce Today and occasionally a photographer of Italian classics. I enjoyed the pictures of Techno Classica Essen that I visited myself last Saturday. It would be a great pleasure for me if I could help you in identifying some cars.

The Cisitalia is a 1947 202 SMM s/n 005 SMM with a 1.4 litre Gordini engine.
The Maserati coupé is a A6 1500 with a Pinin-Farina body. The s/n is 068.
The “Etceterini” is an Ermini based on a Fiat 1100 with a Motto body. The
s/n is 1301.

You will find attached some of my pictures of other Italian cars of great interest (see below). I really hope it can help.

Best regards.
