Lancia Fulvia coupè HF 1600 (1972) was one of the many Monte Carlo Rallye cars seen at Automédon.

Story and photos by Alessandro Gerelli

Automédon is held yearly in the Bourget exhibition center near Paris. The main theme of the show this year was the Monte Carlo Rallye and many winning cars of the past were shown and are below. Part 1 featured the French cars at the event; in this article I have included many of the interesting Italian cars found there.

Automédon is held on the same weekend as the Mondial de l’Automobile, also in Paris. My report on that show begins after the Monte Carlo Rallye cars below. [Read more…] about Automédon Monte Carlo Rallye, Mondial de L’Automobile 2016

Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, 2016 Part 1

August 23, 2016 By pete

Just to remember what Ferrari said.

Photostory by Alessandro Gerelli

The Oldtimers Grand Prix at the Nurburgring has been covered by Alessandro Gerelli since 2002 and is always a refreshing contract to the Monterey Car Week. What is remarkable is that so many of the great Grand Prix and sports racing cars keep returning to the Ring, always in the best of condition and often with new owners. The old never gets old and is newly appreciated by succeeding generations of owners and enthusiasts. Ed. [Read more…] about Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, 2016 Part 1

....not only big but also rich !!!!!

Photostory by Alessandro Gerelli

In previous reports, Gerelli has usually made a split between the Ferraris and Maseratis at the Ring and does so this year as well. “If many of the old cars are the same, the photos are always different,” says Gerelli. The annual event was held on August 12-14. [Read more…] about Oldtimer Grand Prix 2016 Part 2

Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti 2016.

Photos by Alessandro Gerelli

For the twelfth time in fourteen years, Alessandro Gerelli has covered the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti from Cortina, Italy, beginning in 2002. (Read Twelve Years of the Coppa d’Oro).

This year, despite the on and off again weather, the event attracted over 90 entries, all cars built before 1965. A link to the complete entry list follows this article.

But while Gerelli was able to document almost all of the retro events, there is a wonderful book still available about the original event. [Read more…] about Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti 2016: Dust and Glory Review

Milano Autoclassica, held between March 18 and 20, is a rather recent event for Milano but it has grown every year. This year the show attracted more than 50,000 visitors.

It is held in Milano Rho Fiera complex, and easily reached also by underground or train.

Inside there is a huge space for car exhibition, dealers and spare parts and also a small outdoor circuit for test drives.

As usual many Italian old cars exhibited by dealers and clubs, and an auction by Pananti with a few interesting cars and automobilia. Below, only a few of the many cars and items that were on display this year.

Hypercars at Geneva 2016

Story and photos by Alessandro Gerelli

The Geneva motor show is a very important event where all the car manufacturers present new models.

I have concentrated my attention to the most impressive (and expensive) cars at the show, starting from the most famous Italian sport cars but also including a few more names of other Europeans such as the Pagani Huayra, Sbarro Ginevra, Koenigsegg Regera, and the Magna Lykan Hypersport.

It is a gallery of technology, incredible design and performances, but for most of the visitors, they will remain only dreams. [Read more…] about Hypercars at Geneva 2016

Alessandro Gerelli: 140 articles, 3000 photos and 14 years with VeloceToday

In the summer of 1967, September 8th, to be exact, a 19 year-old college student by the name of Alessandro Gerelli was lucky enough to have obtained a pit pass to the Italian Grand Prix. Like today, pit passes were extremely difficult to obtain. But Gerelli was determined. He would not listen to the sound of Amon’s Ferrari from far behind the fences; he wanted desperately to be where the action was. In what must have been a passionately good letter, he wrote to the organizers and asked them if a student could obtain a pit pass. He would do no damage, he wrote, wouldn’t create problems, and maybe if he could just get a pass for the official test day, he could then take some photos. “The process worked,” says Alessandro, “and a very kind lady from the Monza organization called me, and said she had been touched by my letter.” The young Gerelli went to the Monza practice on Friday with a pit pass. He had to access a certain gate and mention the name of the lady who responded to his letter. “The miracle had been done,” recalled Gerelli.

His patience and fortitude resulted in catching a rare photo of Enzo Ferrari in the pits. Ferrari rarely attended races, even at Monza. Gerelli knew that Ferrari would often show up during practice for the Grand Prix so it was not a surprise. “But of course he was Ferrari and in any case the opportunity to see him and to take a picture of him was something exceptional for a young Ferrari lover like me,” said Gerelli. Story and photos by Alessandro Gerelli

Automedon is a two day event held every year in the exhibition center of the Bourget Airport near Paris. This year to celebrate its 15th edition, the main theme of the event was Simca and the Club Simca France presented many Simcas of the 40s and 50s.

But as usual, in the parking lot outside, many production cars, including Italians, Germans and Americans, attracted the attention of the enthusiastic visitors, and for us, perhaps even more fun than the show itself!

Nice cars, nice weather, lot of people…thoroughly enjoyable!
