Wilton Concours 2015; Bugattis and More

Another weekend and yet again the grass has not been cut! Events keep getting in the way.

Not such a long journey this weekend, (June 6-7) just a two-hour jaunt to Wilton House near Salisbury in Wiltshire, the home of the Earls of Pembroke since 1540. The reason for the visit was not to view the recently restored, Inigo Jones designed South Front of the house, or indeed the glorious state rooms; no it was to attend Lord Pembroke’s Classic and Super car weekend.

This is an event that I have never attended before and judging by what I saw laid out on his Lordship’s lawns I can safely say it will not be my last visit. In front of the house, two rows of prize Bugatti’s with three Veyrons (to Celebrate its 10th anniversary) lined up between them. To the left of the house an enviable line up of classics whether you classic of choice be a Ferrari or a VW Camper. The right of the house, a further selection of Classics from a Mini to a Muira.

Replicas, Re-creations, and Fakes

December 12, 2012 By Brandy

By far the biggest recreation ever attempted was the Esders Bugatti Royale. The original convertible had been rebodied and was, at the time, in the Harrah collection. The Schlumpf brothers wanted one exactly like the Royale built for the famed couturier Esders, so they secretly constructed another Royale from scratch. It is still in the Cité de l'Automobile Museum. Photo from the book, “The Schlumpf Obsession”, Doubleday, 1978, photographer unknown.

About thirty years ago, I attended a “Grand Classic,” the judged show that is a regular fixture on the Classic Car Club of America events calendar. I remember seeing a Cord 810 coupe parked under a tree, a little ways from the show. Even from a distance, it was a spectacular car, and I walked over to see it. As I was admiring it, a thought occurred to me like a thunderbolt: Cord never made an 810 coupe!

Lynch: The Dénouement of the Third Bugatti Type 64

August 8, 2012 By Lynch

By Michael T. Lynch

Two weeks ago, Veloce Today brought you the story of David Smith’s Alfa S 11 Corto Spyder Speciale. It will debut on the lawn at The Quail – A Motorsports Gathering, held at the Quail Lodge in Carmel on Friday the 17th of August during the Monterey Peninsula Holy Week. Joining it there will be the imposing Bugatti Type 64 coupé from the Mullin Automotive Museum. The Bugatti has a recently completed body and this is the first time it will be seen. This is how it all came about.
