Cavallino Classic 2020

February 11, 2020 By pete

Tom Peck’s 750 Monza prototype, s/n 0428 MD, won the Scuderia Ferrari Cup at the Cavallino Classic, awarded to the finest competition Ferrari on the field. This Ferrari started out as a 500 Mondial in 1954, but was quickly upgraded to a 750 Monza at the factory.

By Alan Boe

The 29th annual Cavallino Classic was held from January 22 to 26 in Palm Beach, Florida, headquartered at The Breakers Hotel and Resort. I’ve been lucky enough to have attended 26 of these Ferrari fests, many as a concours judge and concours entrant (for 2020, I was an entrant). This year, the weather was great, the Ferrari turnout was great, and it was great to reunite with dozens of Ferrari friends.

Power and Art: Ferrari engines at Cavallino

February 24, 2015 By pete

Photo story by Alessandro Gerelli

Alessandro Gerelli enjoys taking photos of engines…particularly Ferrari engines. So an event like Cavallino is a must-see and for the last five years Alessandro has traveled from his home in Milan to West Palm Beach to cover the traditional Ferrari extravaganza.

A few weeks ago, Alessandro Gerelli submitted his photos of the cars of Cavallino, Ferraris and others.

This week, he submitted the best of his photography on the Ferrari engines at Cavallino Classic 2015. Catching engine shots on so many cars is not easy; on our visit to the event, it was difficult to find any cars with hoods up.

Yet he came back with a huge variety of images, ranging from the 1951 212 to the 2013 La Ferrari, which, like several modern Ferraris, does not need its lid up to view the engine, and we find power and art in all of the Ferraris, no matter what the year, layout, or displacement. For the captions, he has listed the year, engine layout, displacement and horsepower (figures may vary on horsepower), which tell another story of consistent development of an idea and philosophy. (See Ferrari Brochures for Enzo’s words on the subject).

Cavallino Classic 2015: Ferrari

February 3, 2015 By pete

Story and photos by Alessandro Gerelli

Cavallino is the Ferrari enthusiast magazine that began publishing in 1978. In 1991 owner/editor John Barnes organized a winter event in Palm Beach with a gathering of classic Ferraris. This year was the 24th edition of the Cavallino Classic, held on January 21-25.

The event now takes four days. The first two days take place at the nearby Palm Beach International Raceway. This year on the track, there were Testa Rossas, a Dino 206, GTOs, and many newer Ferraris, but no Ferrari single seaters. There were also Alfas, Maseratis and Bugattis.

In the third day there is the traditional Ferrari celebration at the Breakers with a large exhibition of old and more recent Ferrari cars. This year, the cars shown at the Breakers were really fantastic with many never seen before 375s. In this article we feature the Ferraris seen throughout the four days; cars other than Ferraris can be seen here.

This year was the 24th edition of the Cavallino Classic, held on January 21-25. The fourth and last day of the Cavallino Classic is dedicated to a charity brunch at Mar A Lago with the exhibition of stunning cars other than just Ferraris. At Mar A Lago, many wonderful cars were on the lawn. The parking lots were also full of interesting cars, many for sale. These photos were taken both at Mar A Lago, the Breakers and some at the Palm Beach International Raceway.

Classic Sports Sunday at Mar-a-Lago

The end of the Cavallino Classic long week-end is always at Mar-a-Lago club on Sunday, with a charity brunch and an exhibition of stunning cars, this year featuring the classic Bentleys and the most charming cars of the Ferrari meeting. I have focused on these cars plus other Italians old and new; a wonderful environment and wonderful cars. [Read more…] about Cavallino Part 3: Mar-a-Lago

Even though the Cavallino Classic event is now in its 23rd year, it is still very young and healthy.

As usual, the four days were very busy with Thursday and Friday reserved for track time at Palm Beach International Raceway.

On Saturday, the main exhibition at The Breakers Resort takes place, this year’s theme being the 50th birthday of the Ferrari 275 GTB.

And finally, on Sunday everyone gathers at Mar A Lago for an exhibition of cars produced up to the 1970s, and a charity brunch. As usual it was a great success of weather, people and, last but not least, of cars! [Read more…] about Cavallino 2014 Part 1: Palm Beach International Raceway

The first major event of the Cavallino Classic XX was the Florida Trophy, a two-day track meet at Palm Beach International Raceway on Thursday and Friday, January 20 & 21. Over 120 competition Ferraris revived memories of past and present glory, as their owners drove these historic machines again in a race course setting.

Saturday was the concorso at the Breakers, and finally Sunday the last event in Mar-a-Lago, a wonderful club in Palm Beach: not only Ferraris but also a lot of fantastic old cars including Rolls, Mercedes, Cunningham, etc. Below are photos from Mar-a-Lago and Palm Beach International.

The Shell Ferrari Historics will begin 2010 at the Cavallino Classic, at Palm Beach International Raceway, on January 21 and 22, 2010.

For 2010, the purpose of the Shell Ferrari Historic series will remain unchanged, to allow the drivers of historic Ferrari race cars (and selected others: Maserati race cars and pre-war Alfas) to enjoy their cars in a safe competitive environment on historic tracks in North America, with the maximum track time possible.

cavallino Cavallino 2009, focusing on the Mondial 500 S/N 0556(0446)/MD.

Story and Photos by Werner Pfister

(Palm Beach January 23-26 2009)
In spite of Bernie Madoff, the economy and a mid-week cold spell, Palm Beach rallied to once again host the Cavallino Classic; number 18, in fact! While many predicted a weak turn out, I observed many happy Ferraristi at every event of the Classic throughout the week. John and Alicia Barnes did a great job in getting a very enthusiastic group of participants and spectators to turn out despite the odds.
