From the Simeone Foundation Website:

June 12, 2022 Late last evening, as the first rays of light began to appear on the Mulsanne Straight, we lost our hero and champion, Dr. Frederick Simeone. Mere words cannot convey our overwhelming grief and sadness, nor can they express what this great man meant to so many people. Dr. Simeone had celebrated his 86th birthday on June 8.

Below, we republish this article written for Automobile Quarterly as a tribute to the late Fred Simeone.

In the 1970s, when such things were in vogue, a neurosurgeon from Philadelphia made up magnetized labels with names of classic cars. “Mercedes Benz SSK”, one read; “BMW 328” read another. He placed them all on his refrigerator door. [Read more…] about Fred Simeone, a Tribute

The panel of the Meet the Legends presentation enjoys a story while I look at my shoes. From left to right: the author, Peter Brock, Bob Bondurant, Pat Bondurant, Steve Volk and Allen Grant. The image on the screen is Cobra Coupe CSX #2287, the first car completed. It was entirely built within the Shelby American shop. It is shown at the Bonneville Salt Flats where it set 23 world records, including 12 hours at over 150 mph. The car can be seen today at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia. Story by Michael T. Lynch

The Art of the Car Concours celebrated its 10th Edition this year. Since the show’s inception, it has donated well over one million dollars to the Kansas City Art Institute Scholarship Fund. At a time when student debt has surpassed consumer debt, the event is to be complimented for doing its part to ease the burden.

The weekend’s festivities began with Saturday morning’s traditional Entrants’ Breakfast at Tivol, Kansas City’s leading jeweler, located on the Country Club Plaza, which was the first auto-centric shopping area in the country. The Plaza was built in 1927 and takes its architectural theme from Seville, Spain. The block was closed and many entrants brought their show cars, allowing the public to get a free preview of the leading Concours between the two coasts. [Read more…] about MIchael T. Peter Brock: Building the Daytona Coupes in Modena

As soon as the first Daytona Cobra Coupe, CSX 2287, was completed and tested successfully at Riverside Raceway on February 1st 1964, Carroll Shelby decided to build five more. He felt he had a score to settle with Enzo Ferrari and finally had the weapon to do it. The Daytona’s radical design had been so controversial within the Shelby organization that most of those employed there figured Shelby’s plan to race in Europe against Ferrari would evaporate as soon as the first Coupe was tested and found to be a failure. That resistant attitude changed dramatically as soon as test driver Ken Miles called from Riverside trackside to inform Shelby that he’d shattered the track’s lap record by 3.5 seconds!

Yes, five out of six of the Cobra Daytona coupes, first commissioned in 1964, were bodied in Italy. Which makes them as much Italian-American as, say, the Dual Ghias which were Chryslers bodied in Italy.
