There were several legendary cars from the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, whose exhibition kicked off the celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of the Chiti Autodelta works. These include the TZ, the 1300 GTA, the 33/2 Daytona, the 33TT12 that won the World Sports Car Championship in ’75 and ’77, and the 179 F1 experimental.

Sebastien Loeb won the Rally Finland, strengthening his lead in the championship while increasing his lead over his teammate Mikko Hirvonen. For Loeb, the Rally Finland was an exceptional race. Although not one of his favorite venues, he won the event twice in the past and this made it three. Doing the “hat trick” in Finland has been achieved previously only by Finnish drivers.

Ferrari at Indy

May 16, 2012 By Roberto

Rare color image of Ascari at the Brickyard in 1952, courtesy Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

During the month of May and the Indy 500, it’s appropriate to think about two events, Monaco and the Indy 500. Most of us are probably very aware of the appearance at Indy of Alberto Ascari in 1952 and the broken wheel which ended his drive. However, more obscure are the other Ferrari entries that continued for some years after the 1952 event. Below Roberto Motta puts it all together in two parts with the help of images from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. [Ed.]

Ferraris attempts at “The Brickyard” began in 1952, but continued in subsequent years until 1956, with the last Ferrari Bardhal Experimental car. The results were never encouraging, partly because of a lack of preparation and commitment. Perhaps Ferrari did not take the unique and difficult requirements racing at the Indy 500 as seriously as was warranted. [Read more…] about Ferrari at Indy

Nuccio Unveiled

March 7, 2012 By Roberto

Top, the Stratos Zero, bottom, the new Nuccio.

On February 10th, Bertone released the first images of the Nuccio, a dramatic showcar that will have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show (March 8-18th 2012) to celebrate the centenary of Bertone.

As one can see, the Nuccio is an “extreme” sport design which represents the ultimate evolution of the concept of the central rear engine automobile. Do you feel a sense of deja vu? The new Nuccio was, you guessed it, inspired by the Stratos Zero created by Nuccio Bertone in 1970.

Nuccio Bertone

If anything, son of a legend is even more dramatic than the father.

The new concept car from Turin was designed by Michael Robinson at Bertone Style and has much of the flair and drama of the legendary Stratos. Like the Stratos, the Nuccio has a strong emotional impact; it is short, low, wide and powerful. It would be both difficult and a real thrill if one were to drive it on the streets.
