ARESE 23 February 2019 – This year the ‘Scuderia del Portello’ celebrated its drivers and friends with the awarding of the ‘Campioni Alfa Romeo’, an event that the team has organized since 1993 to celebrate the past season and inaugurate the new one. On February 25, as it does every year since 1993, the Scuderia del Portello opened the new season with the “Alfa Romeo Award of Champions” for the drivers who have excelled in competitions and official events of the past season, driving both historical and modern Alfa Romeo cars.
The event was held at the historic Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese and also celebrated 35 years of the Scuderia del Portello. Present during the ceremony were President of the Lombardy Region, Roberto Maroni; the President of the Lombardy Regional Committee CONI Oreste Perri; President ACI Milano, Ivan Capelli, and the director general Arexpo Marco Carabelli. As always, the cars and the drivers of the Scuderia del Portello attracted the attention of fans attending the Intereuropa Cup, an event that has returned to the calendar after the suspension of one year.
On the weekend of June 19 and 21, on the circuit and in the paddock at Monza, racing fans were able to see hundreds of racing cars that have left an indelible mark in the history of international sport. Over the weekend of 31 May to 2 June, the Autodromo di Monza played host to the 61st edition of the Coppa Intereuropa. More than 350 racing cars were involved in dozens of races, as well as a series of events and parades to celebrate the 50th year of the 911th Porsche and the 50th year since the founding of Autodelta.

Most vintage car enthusiasts are aware of the famous Scuderia del Portello, named after the town near Milan where Alfa Romeo was born. Its distinctive shield has been seen all over the world on a great variety of Alfa Romeos. To learn more about the Scuderia del Portello and its president Marco Cajani, we had a meeting with him in the team headquarters in the town of Seregno. We found that Cajani is an inexhaustible source of ideas, a passionate collector and a good driver. During his life with cars, thanks to his organizational skills and an innate charisma, he was able to bring the world famous Scuderia del Portello to new levels of excellence. A graduate in architecture, Cajani is responsible for recovery and building restoration. But the Alfa Romeo is his great passion, a passion that binds him hand in glove with the Scuderia del Portello.

Scuderia Portello has been at the forefront of Italian Vintage Racing since its creation in 1989. At first a small but enthusiastic group of Alfa owners began competing in European vintage car events, but as the sport grew the Scuderia was also entrusted by the company of Alfa Romeo to manage the appearances and transportation of the Arese Museums’ jewels.
