Villa d’Este 2009

April 28, 2009 By Gerelli

Magnificent Lancia Aurelia B52 of 1952 with a coupe body by Vignale (design by Michelotti): one of the three built.

Cernobbio, Italy, April 24th-26th, 2009

Story and photos by Alessandro Gerelli

The traditional Concorso d’Eleganza held at Villa d’Este in Cernobbio on the lake of Como (Italy), has taken the opportunity this year to celebrate a few anniversaries; 80 years of the first Concorso, 100 years of Bugatti, and 80 years of BMW, one of the sponsors of the event.

Bugatti presented four models of the Veyron in the four racing colors (white-Germany, blue-France, red-Italy and green-UK) to recall its racing history, together with a few Type 35s.

In the past few years a section was created dedicated to the exercises of the most important coach builders to present their concept cars; Pininfarina, Zagato and Bertone have shown their models. This year’s crop was not particularly outstanding. Could it be the economy?

As usual, the fifty old cars attracted most of the attention of the very competent and enthusiast visitors.

Unluckily the weather on Sunday was rainy and to take pictures was a very difficult exercise!

Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS of 1933 with a spider body by Touring, probably one of the four built.

Thank you Alessandro for sharing the pics from Como, great to see these beautiful creations!
I love the reflection of the Type 35 in the door of the Veyron!
I have a friend who would choose the 35 … just try taking photos out of something like that at 120 kph on a bumpy road!
    Vince 🙂
