Cars of the Ring: Oldtimer Grand Prix, 2014

August 19, 2014 By Gerelli

This is how I did captions before today..

Maserati 250F #2533 of 1958.

Story and photos by Alessandro Gerelli

The traditional mid-August appointment at the Nurburgring was a great success, with a huge number of enthusiasts to see many important old cars. The old and very long Nordschleife track is used only for one race (the Marathon): all the other races are run on the normal track. [Read more…] about Cars of the Ring: Oldtimer Grand Prix, 2014

Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti 2014

July 29, 2014 By Gerelli

The sole Bugatti in the wonderful environment of Corvara in Alta Badia.

Story and photos by Alessandro Gerelli

The Coppa d’Oro for historic cars has usually been held at the end of August, but for organizational reasons, it has been moved to mid-July.

The result was gorgeous from the weather point of view, and all the participants enjoyed the wonderful sights of the Dolomites, going from Cortina to Merano and then back to Cortina going up and down through many “Passi Dolomitici”.

Unfortunately the number of participants was also very low (about 50 cars at the start and 40 at the arrival) and also the “quality” if compared with the editions of few years ago. This year there was only one Bugatti, one Ferrari, no Maseratis, a few interesting Alfas and Lancias. There were many English cars on hand.

Of course this is a trend which is common to all the “oldtimer” races, but we enthusiasts feel we are missing the sight of those lovely old cars idled in garages.

Milan Autoclassica 2014

May 13, 2014 By Gerelli

Fiat 500 Club Italia with love.

Story and Photos by Alessandro Gerelli

This is a rather new event for Milano, the city which will host the World Expo 2015. But every year the success grows and the number and quality of the cars increases. The 2014 show featured more car restorers, many dealers and the usual owner clubs.

Notably, I have seen a lot of old Italian cars. But at this show, I found a few I had never seen before!

Coppa D’Oro Delle Dolomiti (Cortina) 2013

September 12, 2013 By Gerelli

A nice view of the mountains near Cortina and the Osca 372 FS.

Coppa D’Oro Delle Dolomiti, August 29th-September 1st 2013

Giuliano Canè is an Italian driver who has won many historical Mille Miglia and seven editions of the Coppa d’Oro. In an interview with a local newspaper, he said that the Coppa d’Oro in the 90s was at the same level as the Mille Miglia in terms of number of participants and even more qualified for drivers and cars. I remember in late 80s, I saw a man whose name is Mauro Forghieri changing the plugs of a Testarossa: what a dream! [Read more…] about Coppa D’Oro Delle Dolomiti (Cortina) 2013

Palm Beach International Raceway Photo Gallery

February 7, 2013 By Gerelli

While Brit Jonathan Sharp covered the event from the beaches of the Breakers, from Milan came our correspondent Alessandro Gerelli to capture some of the action at the adjacent races at Palm Beach International Raceway. Just as at the Cavallino Classic, this year’s event at Palm Beach International Raceway was a spectacle of cars but not owners. We have not associated the cars with their owners per their request for a bit of privacy. Ed.

Coppa d’oro delle Dolomiti, 2012

September 26, 2012 By Gerelli

This year's winner is Canè and Galliani with a Lancia Aprilia.

Story and Photos by Alessandro Gerelli

A very rainy edition of the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti in Cortina d’Ampezzo witnessed the victory of Canè Galliani in both the events, the Coppa and the “Alte Sfere Heritage by Bark” of Sunday morning.

As for other international events, the cars in the entry list are becoming more and more “young”: this year no Ferraris, only two Maseratis, no Oscas, one Bugatti, very few etceterinis, few Alfas, but many Jaguar, Triumph, Austin, Porsche.
See the website, Coppadorodelledolomiti for more details.

Maserati 250F sculpture got our attention.

Photos and Captions by Alessandro Gerelli

Since we are celebrating our tenth anniversary this year, we thought it might be nice to list all the articles about the Nurburgring Oldtimer event filed by Alessandro Gerelli in the past decade. It’s an interesting walk through the famous paddock and one can get a sense of how much or how little vintage racing, European style, has changed over the years. Above and below, Gerelli’s photos from this year’s Oldtimer Grand Prix. [Read more…] about Oldtimer Grand Prix, 2012
