Vignale, in one of the firms' let's love America phases, did this design for an Appia.
Special bodied Lancias had more power than the standard sedan.

The Appia's lifespan, from 1953 to 1963 corresponded with the peak years of the Italian coachbuilders. Take one sturdy and strong
chassis and craft whatever meets your needs or desires. A racy lightweight coupe or a pickup truck, a personal cabriolet or an ambulance--all built to your specs in an amazingly short amount of time. In most cases, the only mechanic specification to change was the wheelbase an perhaps tire size.
So the Appia became ubiquitous, every thing to everyone.
Below are a few images we've gathered, in no particular order, and we are sure it represents only the tip of the iceberg.
Allemano, who also did an occasional Maserti, Ferrari and lot of Abarths, chimed in with this very pleasant coupe.
Boano, given to more chrome and do-dads, had this in mind for the Appia.
Almost too similar was this Gran Luce Appia by Vignale, who no doubt borrowed some bucks from Boano or vice-versa.
The Pininfarina coupe/convertible was a slight bit more attractive than the more popular Vignale, below. Only 1087 were built, some bodied by Viotti.
Here Vignale, probably via Michelotti, is tasteful and restrained. The Vignal Appia convertibles are fairly common; 1586 made between 1959-62.
The Vignale interior is particularly well done in comparison with the stock version.
There were at least three distinct variations of the Appia Zagato, most having to do with covered vs. uncovered headlights. 721 Zagato bodied Appias were made, the Sport with a shorter wheelbase.
Civilian Hospital Appia sports oversized wheels and tires. Perhaps the rarest of Appias, only 41 built.
This pickup truck is just the thing for a Lancia restoration service. Lancia
built 2850 pickups but none were made as Series IIIs.
A panel truck/station wagon was also available. 960 were made, again
none as a Series III.
