Virginia resident Gordon Edwards restored this Ellena Ferrari the old way; by himself. It took years, but the longer he kept it, the more it was worth. Yes, some of the work was farmed out, but Gordon must be given credit for doing most of the hard work himself.
Boanos, never very numerous, started disappearing in the 70s and 80s, cut up for parts or the chassis used as a basis for a replica TDF or California body. Historically, the Boano bodied cars were the first production 250GTs. Originally a PininFarina design, the cars were actually built by Carrozzeria Boano in 1956, and the name was changed to Carrozzeria Ellena in 1957. About 80 were built, the Ellena versions having slightly higher roofs than the earlier Boanos.
