Atlanta's Italian Car Day, 11-10-01
One of the most charming Alfas ever produced and co-start of the movie "The Italian Job",
the Alfa sedan is still sought after.
|
From doorhandles to designers, Italian cars from the Fiat 850 to the 550 Barchetta have a lot in common.
Over the past 10 years, the owner's of Italian cars have begun a series of "Italian Car Day" events across
the nation. A difficult task, as trying to organize a variety of Italian car enthusiasts is as easy as
forming a coalition government in Afghanistan. The most visible of these events is the Monterey Concorso,
but from Redding PA to San Diego CA, smaller scale events are gaining in popularity. Unlike Concorso, the
smaller events fail to get any publicity, something VelocePress Magazine will hope to alleviate.
One such event was held on November 10th, as Atlanta's Fifth Annual Italian Car Day. John Montgomery
the event's coordinator, said the event drew 101 Italian cars and 8 bikes from around the Atlanta area.
The inclusion of Italian bikes is also commonplace in the realm of Italian Car Days, and adds more
interest to the events. The almost infinite variety of Italian machines, both old and new, keeps these
events looking like a Corvette or T-Bird show, and there is rarely a dull machine moment.
A stallion of a completely different breed, the Countach never fails to make
startling appearances at Italian Car Days.

The 3500 Maserati Convertible is one of the most desireable of the early Maseratis.
|
Italian Bikes have become part of Italian Car Days all over the US, such as this Ducati which sparkled at Atlanta.
|
Included in the entry were 40 Alfas, 21 Ferraris, 14 Fiats, 6 Lambos, 3 Lancias, 5 Maseratis and
6 DeTomasos, which were parked on the shores of Lake Lanier.
