Ville d'Este 2006

Photos and captions by Alessandro Gerelli

Every year the great Villa on Lake Como hosts the finest display of Italian cars in the world. This is the rear of Villa Erba, near the Hotel Villa d'Este where the public part of the event takes place.

Not much room for chat here. The following are highlights of the magnificent show at Ville d'Este, which took place last weekend.

Below are the cars by make, from Alfa to Ferrari. Next week, Fiat to Zagato, and 20 more great shots from the camera of Alessandro Gerelli.

Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport 1949 coupè Villa d'Este bodied by Touring, winner of the Concorso d'Eleganza of 1949.

Pininfarina Birdcage built for the 75th anniversary in 2005. The basis for the car is the Maserati MC 12 and has a very simple lifting system for the front body.

Bizzarrini Ghepardo. The Bizzarrini-Renault engine (600 bhp) is a detuned version of the gp2 formula cars, but the noise of the car is really exciting.

Another view of the Bizzarrini Ghepardo. The premiere of a new car with the Bizzarrini tag, with a very aggressive body with few similarities with the Bizzarrinis of the 60s.
