Every year thousands of cars gather in August at the Nurburgring to stage the Oldtimer’s Grand Prix, which rivals both the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Monterey Historics in size, spectacle and importance. Both the new Grand Prix circuit and the famous 14 mile old track are used to stage more than 13 races plus dozens of owner’s clubs meetings and events.
The two races on the old Nordschleife have been the traditional Historic Marathon (a three hour race won by a Jaguar E-type) and the 100 minute Nurburgring challenge. but
other races on the new track include all types of sports and GT cars, Grand Prix cars and various formula.
This year there was no Ferrari challenge, limiting the presence of Italian cars to several Maseratis, a few Ferraris, some Formula 3 cars and an assortment of Alfas.
Of course looking around in the paddocks, nice surprises were waiting; two FXX Ferraris, an Ellena GT, a rare Vignale coupe and many Dinos.
If you are thinking of attending next year, visit the website, AdD-Oldtimer-Grand Prix. Plus, the surroundings are very nice and the nearest big cities (Trier, Koblenz, Koln) are very rich in history.
A sea of Maseratis, ready for their annual club event at the 'Ring.
