Ferrari launched not one but two cars at the Detroit auto show this month. First, the North American press welcomed the new 430 coupe. Maurizio Parlato, Ferrari and Maserati North America's boss, introduced the long awaited replacement for the 360 Modena. The 430 has a very nice, but subtle, cosmetic updating and about 20% more horsepower and 30% more torque.
Parlato and Sergio Pininfarina also introduced the new 575 Superamerica convertible. This limited production car signals the end of the 575 production. it will be built starting in May and be produced for around 9 months when approximately 150-170 USA units will have hit these shores.
The Superamerica's glass top does not stow in the trunk, but rather flips on its back and lies neatly on the rear deck. All this is accomplished in 10-15 seconds. That sure beats the time and aggravation required to deal with the 550 Barchetta's ancient soft top. In addition, the Superamerica looks good when the top is up and Ferrari says that you can drive as fast as you want without fear of losing the top as was the case if you ignored the 70 mph limit imposed on the 550 Barchetta.
Ferrari brought Schumacher's 2003 championship car to Detroit.

This engine looks like it might have come out of the F-1 car, however, it is the new chain driven cam, Maserati derived F430 engine. This one would look good in someone's living room..

575 SA showing its standard issue modular wheels. Also, you see a glimpse of the optional GTC package's carbon/ceramic brakes.
575 SA headlights will receive a touch of retro with silver bezels. The air scoop on the hood also gets the silver treatment.
F430 headlight takes a cue from the Enzo and is very narrow.
Ferrari introduces some F-1 features in its F430 steering wheel with a start button and "manettino" for controlling suspension, etc.
Of course, Schumacher's F-1 cockpit goes much further than the F430 with the entire dashboard mounted on the wheel.
Ferrari has definitely updated the interior look of the F430 over the outgoing 360 model.
F430 rear is very different with taillights like an Enzo and air diffusers similar to the 360 Challenge Stradale.
A 612 version of the V-12 engine, putting out 540 horsepower, will motivate the 575 SA.
The 575 SA also features a new rear panel between the taillights which gives it an updated look. Note the simulated Scuderia shield superimposed on the panel.
The interior of the 575 SA features more leather trim than a standard 575. The new look is especially noticeable around the tunnel and the seats.

Maserati is so proud of its first year GT wins with the MC-12 that it showed off the street version in Detroit. |
The Maserati brothers started their company in 1914, before Enzo Ferrari was even old enough to drive. This special edition of its Spyder commemorates this 90th anniversary. It is available in this special blue or silver and features carbon fiber headrest fairings as well as other unique items.

Maserati Gran Sport coupe in "fuji bianco" (pearl white) paint. This special version of the coupe is to Maserati what the Stradale was to Ferrari...a hot rod!
Lamborghini displayed their Murcielago roadster in their signature yellow color. It is now also available with Lambo's paddle shift "e-gear" .
Gallardo in charcoal was displayed next to its big brother in Detroit.
