Neither Florida's hurricanes nor Donald Trump's wedding could dampen the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic XIV. John and Alicia Barnes and the Cavallino staff did another fantastic job of organizing what has come to be known as the premier Ferrari event of the season.
That is not to say that the weather did not try to ruin the plans. First, the well liked yacht hop, usually scheduled for Friday evening, was cancelled because ongoing hurricane repairs at the boat yard precluded visitors. However, in its place there was a beautiful cocktail reception at the refurbished Breakers Hotel's seaside garden.
The Cavallino staff also had to cancel the customary Sunday event at the Trump estate, Mar-a Lago. Instead they created a new Sunday concours. John Barnes combined forces with Andrew Carduner to inaugurate a great event at the Palm Beach Polo Field in Wellington. Named the Palm Beach International- a concours d’elegance, it featured some of the Ferraris from the Saturday Cavallino concours and also introduced many fine non-Ferrari automobiles to the Ferraristi.
Overall, this was a terrific event, which featured beautiful weather for watching Ferraris and Ferraristi. In fact, Piero Ferrari and former Ferrari F-1 pilot, Eddie Irvine came over from wintry northern Italy to enjoy sunny south Florida for the weekend.
