A holiday to Lake Como in late May for an old car enthusiast usually means you plan to attend the concours at Villa d’Este/Villa Erbe, but since 2019 there has been a third event to tempt you. The FuoriConcorso, held on the lake shore on May 20-21, was created by Guglielmo Miani to celebrate automotive culture both old and new. Curated by Andrea Luzardi and now expanded across three Lake Shore Villas, this year’s event celebrated the art of aerodynamics featuring more than 30 cars from the 1920s to today’s hypercars.
To quote from the website, “FuoriConcorso is a revolutionary event series and community that brings together likeminded car enthusiasts at some of the world’s most iconic and luxurious destinations. The exclusive events and rallys aim to enrich the automotive knowledge of their participants while offering once-in-a-lifetime experiences and a taste of the famous Italian way of life. Since its launch in 2019, FuoriConcorso has been praised by tastemakers and media as one of the world’s freshest, most exciting and most talked-about automotive events.”
In addition, Villa Olmo, which was free to visit, contained an interesting and varied cross section of racing and road Porsches, many from the factory museum, to celebrate that company’s 75th birthday. Entrance to the main event was at Villa Del Grumello which contained the older vehicles displayed at various locations around the garden. In addition, outside of the St Moritz pavilion towards the top of the gardens, was a display celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Ferrari BB. It was then but a short walk through the gardens to Villa Sucoto to view the more modern Super/Hyper cars on display in front of the Villa. This also being a life style event, visitors had ample opportunity to enjoy talks on fine wine and coffee, purchase some last minute jewelry, a new MV motorcycle, or some luxury clothing from the Larusmiani Boutique. Whilst the weather was not too kind, our thoughts and prayers throughout the weekend remained for the victims of the flooding in the neighboring region of Reggio Emilia.

I understand this is a Ferrari FXX K Evo though I doubt if the plank of wood is factory, or if it is I bet it is an £xxxxx extra!

that ’63 porsche which won the gt class in the targa lapped me in the hills–it suddenly appeared in my mirror and i almost sprained my left arm waving him by, because as he appeared he was zigzagging to see which side he was gonna pass me on! i can still replay those few seconds in my mind’s eye. a delightful moment in the world’s best road race!
