Barossa Vintage Collingrove Hillclimb 2024

Barossa Vintage Collingrove Hillclimb, 6 October 2024 Spring in South Australia’s wine country sees the vines in leaf and the Barossa Valley hills at their finest. Vintage at the wineries is still a long way off but the long weekend in October brings a different vintage to the SA Sporting Car Club’s hillclimb track at Mount McKenzie near Angaston. Celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, the world’s second oldest continually-running veteran car club’s Collingrove meeting echoed to the sounds of last century’s classic and sports cars and motorcycles as they raced the clock to the top.

In the Paddock at Goodwood

Vintage Goodwood!

Story and photos by Jonathan Sharp

The Goodwood Revival is renowned for its attention to detail, and the ability to get up close and personal to the cars and drivers across the site. However, between the track fence and race track, obviously, and the tow road and assembly area are places which are considered to be less safe for the general public and are only accessible to the teams and accredited members of the press.

I hope the following photos give you a small taste of what goes on in those two areas and if, in some of the shots, it looks like chaos, let me tell you that it is all beautifully choreographed thanks to the skill and dedication of the hard-working marshalls. Oh and just a thought with regards to attention to detail, each year the Driver’s Club is built around a theme. Last year it was the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, this year it was a jungle theme even down to the weather which was tropical to say the least. [Read more…] about In the Paddock at Goodwood

A Distinctly Different Recreation

Just hold on now, we’ll explain…

By Pete Vack

Phil Friday is always full of ideas, many of which take years to be realized. But he’s got a lot of patience and imagination which often result in some startling projects. Like his version of an Auto Union Grand Prix car, perhaps inspired by the VW-Bugatti replicas of yore. “My Auto Union type C/D hillclimb replica is built on a 1963 Auto Union 1000S (DKW) chassis and running gear. I always thought it was demeaning to replicate a Bugatti Type 35 on a VW platform, so I thought I would replicate an Auto Union on an Auto Union platform.”

Bugattis Tour Australia

November 20, 2018 By pete

Story and photos by Vince Johnson

From the VeloceToday Archives, South Australia, 10-13 April 2013.

Forty-two members of the Bugatti Club Australia made their way to the Barossa Valley wine country, north-east of Adelaide, for the ‘Five Valleys Run’ in April. Understandably, wineries featured heavily in the itinerary. Interstate members from New South Wales met those who had travelled from Victoria at Stirling on Tuesday evening, not far from Piccadilly Valley in the hills above the state capital.
