After three days of testing on Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo, the team returned to Maranello to analyzing the data collected.

Fernando Alonso gave the F150 its official track debut; on February 1st the Spanish driver worked mainly on general car development and on gaining further understanding of the Pirelli tires. Alonso and the F150 completed 98 laps without any significant technical problems.

Sebastian Vettel won an entertaining Brazilian Grand Prix and helped clinch the constructor’s championship for Red Bull Racing in a season that has seen the lead change more times than Lindsey Lohan has requested bail. Mark Webber’s second place finish was a clean, uneventful drive, but that is what helps win championships.

It rained and then it got dark, not an auspicious beginning for Korea’s first world championship Formula One event. It looked dismal, the bleachers were only half filled, the rain didn’t let off and the red lights blinked throughout the event. Seven cars were involved in accidents and retired. Dismal and expensive. [Read more…] about Korean Grand Prix, Oct. 24, 2010

Singapore has tried branding itself as the Monaco of the east.  I’ll give them credit for creating something special. But, with strict laws and not nearly the same quantity of vulgar, rich Russians, it’s not going to be an exact copy.  But what they have managed to do is create a show, and that’s what this sport is all about. There is an old lesson in racing that you don’t necessarily need to be the fastest car out there to win, you just need to be the first to cross the finish line.  Mark Webber drew a line under that statement with his uneventful win at the Hungaroring.  It really wasn’t his race to win, but it was his team mate Vettel’s to lose.  And lose he did. The young German seemed to have the race in the bag with a strong pole performance and outstanding opening laps.   [Read more…] about Hungarian Grand Prix

European Grand Prix

The recent unscheduled flight of Mark Webber’s Red Bull highlighted at least two issues:

One, that the new regulations which were put in place for increased cockpit safety measures were certainly worthwhile; and two, Mark Webber has been involved in an increasing number of incidents.

In spite of my last article, McLaren tried to prove that it wasn’t just Red Bull’s ability to take their own cars out of contention that would lead to a desired result for the Woking based team, but that they could do it all on their own.  It was Hamilton’s race to lose, and between driving a clean race and having the team’s flawless pit stops, he made it look easy.  [Read more…] about Canadian Grand Prix
