The Silent Champion

What engine powered Red Bull to victory? Say that again?

Editorial by Gijsbert-Paul Berk

After the safety car-finish of Jenson Button in his McLaren-Mercedes at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, the new World Champion Sebastian Vettel also got a warm round of applause from an enthusiastic Brazilian crowd. However, in all the excitement over the Grand Prix of Brazil, most commentators and reporters failed to mention that this was a victory for Renault as well as Vettel and Red Bull. Fortunately the French sports journalist Jean-Louis Moncet, who writes for the magazine Auto Plus and does the race commentary for the French TV station TF1, did remember the role of Red Bull’s engine supplier, and was quite justified in doing so.

It looked dismal, the bleachers were only half filled, the rain didn’t let off and the red lights blinked throughout the event. Seven cars were involved in accidents and retired. Dismal and expensive. [Read more…] about Korean Grand Prix, Oct. 24, 2010

Europe Beckons. Starting with Barcelona.

Button at speed. The one to beat?

F1 Preview by Philippe Defechereux

Here we are, after a three-week hiatus, waging our reputation at the game of forecasting once again. Barring rain in Barcelona –somewhat unlikely in May- it should prove a little easier this time.

Perhaps not. Those three weeks were, in fact momentous, off the track. First, the volcanic plume from Iceland left a lot of F1 people ashen-faced in China (pardon the pun), as they wondered how or even whether they could get home to Europe. Good news, after a few stressful days, it all calmed down and everybody got home early enough to plan new tricks. [Read more…] about Europe Beckons. Starting with Barcelona.
