Heveningham Hall Country Fair and Concours of Elegance

Heveningham Concours 2025

July 7, 2025 By pete

1967 Maserati Mistral Coupe, chassis 1146, after spending many decades languishing in a California garage is now with a UK based enthusiast, and it is a 4.0 Litre example to boot, great looking and 265 bhp.

After what can only be described as a Friday afternoon nightmare journey via the M25 to my hotel near Ipswich, it was so nice to take to the nearly deserted roads of Suffolk for a very pleasant 40 minute run to once again attend the Heveningham Hall Concours on June 28-29. With the cars displayed on the grass terraces I have to say that, along with Hampton Court, it is one of the best locations for displaying automotive works of art. Heveningham Concours 2023

1960 Bristol 406 Sports Saloon by Zagato. This example is chassis 5299, one of six constructed, that was sold by Tony Crook to Richard Robinson, a well-known Bristol owners club member, who retained the car for three decades. Compared to a standard 406, the Zagato Sports Saloon is shorter, lower, and lighter to the tune of 260kg giving the car a top speed in the order of 120 mph. Between 2002 and 2005, 5299 was restored as to how it appeared at the 1960 Earls Court Motor Show.

I am writing this intro to the Heveningham show on what has for me become a free Saturday (July 15) as day three of the Festival of Speed at Goodwood has just been cancelled, meaning I can stay home. The sun is shining but it is very windy, not kind to tents and other temporary structures built on the Goodwood Estate. What a change to last Saturday (July 8th) when I was in Suffolk at Heveningham Hall for the Country Fair and Concours where the sun shone down but the heat and humidity were to put mildly…yuk!. So here is our report from that somewhat better weekend.

Heveningham Hall Concours 2019

June 21-23, 2019 Heveningham Hall, UK —“What is your business here?” thus spoke the larger of the two assault-rifle-toting-military personal as we arrived at the main gate of the location. I wondered if he’d be ok with VeloceToday credentials. [Read more…] about Heveningham Hall Concours 2019

Sharp at Heveningham Part 2

The Heveningham Concours has a bit of everything but aside from cars, it always attracts a good entry of propeller-driven airplanes. Last week our man in the UK Jonathan Sharp presented a few of the cars in the show, and this week he continues with cars, then a selection of dramatic night shots, and finally a few of the more interesting aircraft, such as a Messerschmidt built by Hispano Aviacion with a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine! We needn’t apologize for Jonathan’s excursions into the air – we always wondered where they got all the planes for the movie “The Battle of Britain”. [Read more…] about Sharp at Heveningham Part 2

On June 30-July 1, Jonathan Sharp once again attended the Heveningham Hall Concours d’Elegance. When he attended the inaugural event in 2106, he wrote, “Heveningham Hall is a 5000 acre estate deep in the heart of rural Suffolk with dramatic grass terraces designed by renowned landscape architect Kim Wilkie. Heveningham Hall Concours of Elegance

July 25, 2017 By pete

Story and photos by Jonathan Sharp

It’s lunch time on the Sunday and I am sitting on a straw bail near the lake on the Heveningham Hall Estate deep in the heart of Suffolk. In front of me is a small display ring where several retriever dogs are being put through the paces, each dog happily diving into the water reeds to retrieve the object thrown for them. An inshore F1 racing power boat is giving high speed rides on the lake, its four stroke engine making an impressive noise which can probably be heard several miles away. To my right is a display of vintage tractors and to my left in the big parade ring several Shire Horses with carts are being displayed to the crowd. Above my head a MK9 Spitfire is engaging in a mock dog fight with an ME109 (Actually its an Hispano Buchan but its close enough) and lined up on the immaculate terraced lawn of Heveningham Hall directly behind me are 50 of the worlds rarest cars. Behind the terraces and close to the orangery is a small collection of classic 1930s aeroplanes that have entered into the new Aviation concours. They are lined up by the trees at one end of a small grass airstrip and at the other end of the strip are parked several dozen visiting aircraft.
