Vanhoolandt’s Goodwood Part 1

October 6, 2025 By pete

A heavy downpour had soaked the Goodwood track, forming an impressive puddle at the exit of the chicane. It took more than that to impress the driver of this 1938 Maserati 8CTF.

Vanhoolandt’s Goodwood Part 2

October 6, 2025 By pete

It’s a little-known fact that Jim Clark tested an Alfa Romeo. Purchased by an Alfa Romeo UK employee for racing, Jim Clark tested this Giulietta Sprint Veloce at Charterhall to compare it to the Lotus Elite.

2023 Goodwood Revival September 8-10

September 18, 2023 By pete

Side by side in the pits straight the 1938 Alfa Romeo 158 ‘Alfetta’ of Peter Greenfield and the 1948 Talbot-Lago Type 26C of Luc Brandts, respectively 8th and 17th in this race won by the 1937 Alta of Ian Baxter.

Although the Goodwood Revival celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, it still attracts many spectators and the show still lives up to expectations. The summer weather on the first two days added to the pleasure of taking part in this celebration of motorsport from the 1920s to the 1960s. The rain on Sunday afternoon made the RAC TT Celebration Race even more epic than usual, also unfortunately with some damaged cars. The slightest deviation in trajectory does not forgive at Goodwood, a circuit that remains in the old style, with few clearances or fences, and that is what makes the charm of this event. Alongside the races, the numerous parades and activities of all kinds satisfied visitors, even those who had little interest in motorsport. We will focus on a few major races, all still hotly contested at Goodwood.

Festival of Speed with Hugues Vanhoolandt

July 24, 2023 By pete

In order to celebrate Porsche’s 75th anniversary with dignity, the monumental sculpture located in front of Goodwood House was dedicated to the Stuttgart brand. Here, in the foreground, the 911 Carrera RSR 2.8 in Brumos colors used at the time by the young Mexican Hector Rebaque before his move to Formula 1 in the late 70s.

Coming from Belgium, I was back at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 16th for the first time in 4 years. Since then Covid 19 and Brexit have happened. However, I was not too out of place because the Festival of Speed is still as successful (and causes as many traffic jams!) and still arouse as much enthusiasm among fans. The British weather is also always equal to itself, with heavy rain punctuating Friday afternoon while Saturday was completely canceled due to storms (a first in 30 years of Festival of Speed)! Finally, there was only Sunday left to enjoy the various themes prepared by Lord March and his team such as the 75th anniversaries of Porsche, Lotus and the first race at Goodwood as well as the 60th anniversary of McLaren and the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, among other celebrations. But let’s rather see in pictures a brief overview of the festivities.

Vanhoolandt at the 2019 Goodwood Revival

September 24, 2019 By pete

A part of the Goodwood Trophy field with the 1938 Maserati 6CM of Ewen Sergison in the lead.

We have seen the 1959 TT parade, now to the real racing. Hugues Vanhoolandt gives us a visual feast of the races at the Goodwood Revival (September 13-15).

A year has passed since our last visit to the West Sussex circuit of Goodwood, and every year we wonder what the Duke of Richmond & Gordon and his team have found for new ideas to entertain a crowd of 150,000 people; there is so much more going on than the races at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
