Villa Erba 2025: Italians

June 9, 2025 By pete

Story and photos by Jonathan Sharp

It’s easier to understand Villa Erba, Villa d’Este and the Fuori Concorso if we list the schedule:

Saturday, Sunday, May 24-25 Fuori Concorso
Saturday May 24 Exhibition and Inspection of the cars by the Jury, Villa d’Este
Sunday May 25 Transfer of all Historic Cars and Concept Cars to Villa Erba
Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este Public Day – Il Festival, Villa Erba

After the Fuori show (see last week) is the Villa d’Este concours, which then shifts over to the nearby Villa Erba, still on the lake shore, for the public day, which is what we cover here.

Commissioned by Rene Bollore, the second husband of Ettore Bugatti’s widow, chassis 101504 was originally painted dark green with chrome spoke wheels and white wall tires.

This we covered in two parts last week. This week we continue the event coverage with the non-Italian cars featured at this year’s show at Villa Erba. Villa d’Este Class winners are listed below the gallery.

Villa Erba 2024 with Jonathan Sharp

Arriving at the Villa Erba in style.

Story and photos by Jonathan Sharp

Note to self, if you attend the Villa d’Este/Villa Erba Concours again (which I probably will!) then take the ferry! It is 3.9 miles from the town of Como, where our hotel was located, to Cernobbia where the Villas are located. It should take about 16 minutes by car and about half an hour by bus. Sunday morning of Concours weekend has not a chance, took me 75 minutes on the bus.

More from Villa Erba

From the ‘Faster: the arms race on the road’ class. Brian Ross’s 1957 Ferrari 335S, ex- Pierre Bardinon’s Mas du Clos collection.

Story and photos by Jonathan Sharp

The classes for this year encompassed the years 1914 (Rolls Royce) to 2024 (Concepts and prototypes). In addition to the various classes, visitors to the public day at Villa Erba on the Sunday could enjoy a separate display of motorsport milestones and several BMW Art cars in the main convention centre, and a fine display of Gandini designed cars as a tribute to the late great Master on the green outside.

So what was my favorite car? probably the Fiat Dino Aerodynamica, or maybe the Serenissima Agena, or maybe the Alfa 8C. There wasn’t a duff car in the place, and if you do visit, and your really should, remember take the ferry!

For a list of the classes, click on the website at the end of this article.

Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2017

A car not designed for Concours d’Elegance … the 1935 Lurani Nibbio was destined to break records. Despite its 500cc Moto Guzzi engine, the car was capable of more than 100 mph. It received the Best of Show by public referendum at Villa d’Este, better known as Coppa d’Oro.

The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este held on the shoreline of Lake Como is considered by many as the most exclusive and elegant classic car event in the world. Surely it is due to the unique backdrop constituted by the grounds of Villa d’Este and Villa Erba as well as to the tradition that stretches back to the year 1929 when awards were made to the most beautiful new cars of the time.

Today, the awards are sometimes given to the same cars, now considered as the most beautiful ‘old’ cars. But the selection made by the organizer committee also includes some racing or record cars never thought to parade in a Concorso d’Eleganza. Nevertheless they did impress the jury and the public as we will see below.

Below is our selection of the most interesting cars at the event on May 27, 2017. [Read more…] about Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2017

Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, 2016

Lancia Astura series II berlinetta Castagna 1933 prize winner as best in show.

Story and photos by Alessandro Gerelli

The Concorso Villa d’Este was held on May 20-22. Saturday’s competitive event is held at the Villa d’Este, and on Sunday, all the cars are shown in the nearby Villa Erba; this day is open to the public.

While often confusing, the official definition is Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, while Villa Erba is a location within the show.

The Concorso Villa d’Este has a very long history since 1929, but only recently a new class “Concept Cars and Prototypes” was included in the show.

This year I looked at the new creations of a make or of a coachbuilder, and compared them with their original or older cars in the same show.

Of course there are the pictures of the many other jewels shown in the crowded court of Villa Erba, where I took the following images on Sunday. [Read more…] about Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, 2016
